After years of discussion, a round of speculation in the fall. and months waiting for confirmation, we are pleased to officially confirm that Chicago's newest Trader Joe's is coming to Uptown.
We noted a building permit was issued this morning confirming the buildout was for Trader Joe's. The newest location will be located at 804 W. Montrose in the 811 Uptown building.
The space was originally designed for a Treasure Island location, but the demise of Treasure Island left the space empty. Suburban produce market Peter Rubi had a short run in the space, and Canadian vegan grocer XMarket had two different concepts in the space before closing in 2025.
We have long touted the location as a perfect fit for Trader Joe's and encouraged readers to share the location with Trader Joe's corporate. Trader Joe's looked at a space in Andersonville but abandoned those plans in 2023.
The proximity to DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Lincoln Park and the lakefront bike path, and the dense Lakeview, Uptown, Andersonville and Edgewater communities makes this a great location for expansion.
Given that the 'bones' of a market are already in place, we would expect an opening by summer.

Well that's some great news for the neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteYay—this is great news!!
ReplyDeleteGreat news for that corner. I miss Uptown so much.
ReplyDeleteYeah!!!!!
ReplyDeletePhoto of building permit with “Trader Joe” on it?
ReplyDeletelets fucken go
ReplyDeleteI wonder how parking will work
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing
DeleteWhere will people park? I can walk here, so I'm excited, but I can't imagine how they'll do parking. Will the high rise let them use their lot??
ReplyDeleteThe bottom floor of the parking garage would be for Trader Joe’s. I’m sure eighteleven will start giving notices or tows residents who park there.
DeleteThe high rise across the street will have a few floors for parking.
DeleteWahoooooooo!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope they have enough parking.
ReplyDeleteThis is great for our neighborhood
ReplyDeleteA good employer and parking!
ReplyDeleteDo your research. They are not a good employer.
DeletePlease enlighten us about TJ's not being a good employer and cite your source please.
DeleteEveryone I have ever known has loved working there. Benefits, great pay, great perks, and fun environment. Majority of employees I see working as well seem to genuinely enjoy it. Probably a person that is bitter about Chicago Market walking away.
DeleteUnion busters. Stop shilling
DeleteI’m excited!
ReplyDeleteThis is incredible and just made my weekend!
ReplyDeleteYes!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how impossibly tight the parking lot will be!
ReplyDeleteIs there a parking lot? Where will we park?
ReplyDeleteI can do all my Christmas shopping there too 🙌. Since food is a delicacy now . I love TJ’s
ReplyDeleteParking will be in the structure across the street- they’re taking a few floors there
ReplyDeleteSo many people’s first question is about parking; that always seems like such a short-sighted mindset to me.
ReplyDeleteInstead, why not ask “is there enough residential density and sufficient public transportation for this to succeed without any parking?”
lol, a new grocery store coming into the neighborhood and people are more worried about parking than the actual store
ReplyDeleteyes and?
DeleteI am soooooo excited!!!!! Can’t wait for the grand opening!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGet your lazy asses on a bike or walk. Why is everyone so obsessed with driving?
ReplyDeleteDrive to the one in Lincoln square?
