Man Arrested for Assault On Ald. Cappleman Re-Arrested Days Later For Aggravated Battery Of Senior Citizen

As most of our readers know, there was an incident on September 18th where Ald. Cappleman, who had gone to the corner of Racine and Leland after constituents reported public drinking, was allegedly assaulted by one of the men who've been regularly hanging out there. The alleged assailant's name is Tony Landers.  Mr. Landers was subsequently arrested and released on the evening of Monday, September 20th.

Tonight, a reader sent in a screen shot showing that Mr. Landers, less than three days after his release from jail, was arrested on charges that he committed aggravated battery against a female senior citizen a couple of blocks away at 4623 North Broadway on the morning of Thursday, September 23rd.

Moreover, research shows Mr. Landers was previously arrested less than a year ago for another alleged attack: aggravated assault and use of a deadly weapon, at 4650 North Broadway, at the corner of Broadway and Leland.

Obviously this man needs help and intervention from social services, and we hope he gets the help he needs. 48 arrests unfortunately haven't done anything to help him or control his behavior.

We are posting his photo so that residents and visitors who walk through the area he frequents are aware of him and what he looks like. Please steer clear of him!

  1. This man is a menace to society--at least in his current mental state.

He needs to be locked away for a long period of time.

Perhaps in a prison or perhaps in some other setting.

In any case he's a menace to society and our neighborhood.

Once he is released from this theoretical prison/other setting he needs to be monitored to make sure he doesn't become a danger again.

We live in a dysfunctional criminal justice system in Cook County where the States Attorney talks more about food deserts etc than she does dealing with crime.

We're likely to have 800 homicides in Chicago this year. Wasn't that many years ago when it was 455 murdered--in 2013.

Carjackings, homicides, cats and dogs living together--real end of the world stuff.

    1. Why did the aldercritter steal his table? Why do you hate the legal system? This man fought off a table pirate, and should not be subject to your onerous prison requirements, Republican Pirate.

    2. Anon,

      I vote Dem. I'm a Dem pirate.

I don't hate the legal system. I want it to be better.

      I do hate you though.

      Then again don't we all?

  2. Lock this maniac up and worry about his mental state later. Other people have rights too.

  3. What is the point of arresting him if he is just released to commit yet another assault? Enough political correctness, he needs help from the inside of a prison. Does he have to kill somebody?

  4. People like him need to be institutionalized. It's like the man who stabbed to death the student who was walking downtown and had a prior on his record for something similar. We have enough jails, we don't have enough mental institutions where we can put the mentally deranged (not ill but deranged) in.
