Oh, Wilbur!

You might recall the shooting that took place recently at an Edgewater White Castle. The perp, Uptown's own Wilbur Jackson of the 4400 block of North Magnolia, was apprehended. He is featured in the Sun-Times "Mugshots in the News."

Update:  But, wait, there's more!  Wilbur's alleged accomplice in the White Castle shooting was Uptowner Paul Myvett, who's been creating headlines around here for quite a few years (just ask the people who live near the Sunnyside Mall).  Paul was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm in a shooting and with driving with a suspended license and issued three traffic citations.  He is currently on trial for a previous count of aggravated DUI.

Oddly, Paul is a man of many addresses.  In the DUI case, he gave an Evanston address; in the White Castle arrest, he gives an address on Sedgwick; and a friend with an interest in public records tells us that he recently lost his property virginity when he became a homeowner on Throop on the South Side.  All this without holding down a job.  We wonder what his income source is?

    (sorry, couldn't resist)

  2. Ugh. I see him all the time. It would be nice not to see him for awhile, given his crime.

  3. Is GT still willing to help us create the
    UPTOWN GANG BUILDING website?

    Let's start with...
    Where does Wilbur Jackson live?
Whose name is on the lease?

    Which 44XX Magnolia building?
The 4416-22 Voice building that's being rehabbed with TIF money?

Or the CHA building on Sunnyside and Magnolia?

Tomorrow's CAPS meeting should focus on identifying the names, addresses, managers and owners of these buildings.

  4. Innocent until proven guilty and all that aside,

We should send certified letters to the property managers alerting them to the "news" regarding their tenants. That way, they could not deny knowledge of receipt of notification that they may in fact be renting to known criminals. Then put them on the defensive to take action under applicable laws, etc.

I think it is time to say to property managers in our neighborhood - listen, we expect you to rent to people who follow the law and don't contribute negatively to our quality of life.

  5. In fact, the City of Chicago Drug Housing stuff do not require a conviction, just an arrest, for eviction.

  6. Clearly two fine individuals, selfless givers to the community, and more than likely former honor students; now just on the temporary skids with some unfortunate bad luck.

  7. I'm doing legal research and came up with this document that people might find interesting...it spells out what the CHA can evict people for.

  8. I was also intrigued as to what "aggravated DUI" meant. Apparently there are three basic types:

    1) Committing a normal misdemeanor DUI when you have two or more prior convictions in the past 5 years (a class 4 felony);
    2) Committing a normal misdemeanor DUI when you are driving on a suspended, canceled, revoked, or refused license (a class 4 felony);
    3) Committing a normal misdemeanor DUI when there is a child under 15 years of age is in the car (a class 6 felony).

  9. Ooh, I do hope young Wilbur lives in the Voice of the People, TIF or CHA housing because it makes me feel good to know that my tax dollars are helping to fund this underprivileged lad. All he needs is a leg up, and he'll become a contributing member of society very soon.

Merry Christmas to you, Wilbur! I know you'll be back out terrorizing the neighborhood by then. Meanwhile, I hope those bully cops didn't hit ya in the mouth.

  10. Wilbur has $150,000 bond.

    Paul has no bond.

    I use no hyperlink.

    They do not deserve one.

  11. Wilbur does not, i repeat does not live on Magnolia!!!! i would say 80% of the people no longer resides in the Uptown area!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. UPTOWN: Why do you believe he doesn't live on Magnolia? He has certainly been around dealing drugs for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  13. @UPTOWN

You wrote "i would say 80% of the people no longer resides in the Uptown area!!!!"

If I assume you are responding to the article, we only talking about 2 arrested individuals are mentioned. 80% is 1 & 3/5ths person.

Otherwise, who are the "people" to which you refer? Many here would like to help you remove the other 20%, as they don't appear to be model citizens.

    ReplyDelete
  14. that means wilbur has to post only 15K - isn't that just a day of drug deals?

    uptown -- what do u mean? 90%?

    ReplyDelete
  15. If Wilbur does not "live" on Magnolia than he sure does hang with his homies a lot in that area. The Police pointed out good old Wilbur numerous to me as being a "shooter." I have called the Cops on young Wilbur many times for dealing. I have seen young Wilbur running from gun shots on Sunnyside.

    Nice try.

  16. Regardless of where Wilbur actually lives, the fact that we are blogging about him on UU and celebrating his capture obviously indicates that he may be a community concern.

    Just a thought.

  17. WELL IF YALL ARE ONLY TALKING ABOUT 2 OF EM, I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THEY DO NOT LIVE ON MAGNOLIA!!! WHILE WE AT IT LETS TALK ABOUT THE DOGS YOU ALL HAVE THAT BE PISSING IN THE GRASS DAMAGING THE GRASS!!! UPTOWN BEEN LIKE THIS FOR MANY YEARS AND ACTUALLY THE VIOLENCE HAS DECREASED OVER THE YEARS. YOU PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE DONE YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE MOVING HERE. UPTOWN BEEN THIS WAY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I would like to see the pics of these two men copied and posted up all over the area, labeled: "Known menace to the community/ armed and dangerous."

    ReplyDelete
  19. I should have mentioned @9:10am that the Police have a term for guys like these two: "shitheads".

    ReplyDelete
  20. @ MEG OF COURSE I WANT A SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD!!! I HAVE CHILDREN!!!! I JUST HATE TO SEE MANY OF YOU ON HERE ALWAYS STATING FALSE INFORMATION AND ALWAYS BLAMING HELEN FOR THE VIOLENCE!!! LETS POINT THE FINGERS AT THE CPD!!! LETS ALSO LEARN THE FACTS B4 WE TALK ABOUT THINGS!!!!

  21. Uptown,

I don't think dog owners letting their dogs relieve themselves in the parkway(area between the street and sidewalk) is against the law. But I do know that what the accused are being accused of is in fact against the law. I think you should be happy that concerned citizens care about the neighborhood and talk about it on this blog(in mostly a respectful fashion).

Though these gentlemen may be your friends, whether they live on Magnolia or not, they are not wanted in the neighborhood if they are going to commit crimes of any kind that endager the law abiding citizens in the neighborhood.

    ReplyDelete
  22. UPTOWN: C'mon man! Dogs aren't gonna shoot my kids or harm them...they're at least on leashes in our neighborhoood. The "dogs" pictured here should be on leashes in jail, which will hopefully happen soon.

Second of all, you have no idea when anyone moved here as I'm sure it varies across all posters. Regardless it's ridiculous to accept violence in any neighborhood anywhere. Decreases are great, but elimination is the goal where we can all feel safe walking outside with our kids or, if we so choose, our pissing dogs.

If these guys are friends of yours, maybe you can also talk to them about throwing their trash into garbage bins instead of littering everywhere. That creates a much greater eyesore than a few patches of dead grass.

    ReplyDelete
  23. UPTOWN - let's lay off the all caps, okay? Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  24. "YOU PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE DONE YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE MOVING HERE. UPTOWN BEEN THIS WAY!!!" Uptown

Are you saying that safety isn't that big a deal for poor people?

    ReplyDelete
  25. UPTOWN - we should "point fingers at the CPD?"

    Wow.

Aren't the two men in question here responsible for their own actions? How is blaming the police fair? Sounds like you are just looking for a scapegoat for changes in the neighborhood that you do not like.

    ReplyDelete
  26. So UPTOWN, because there has historically been violence in Uptown and we don't like it we shouldn't have moved here?? Are you saying law-abiding citizens who want a peaceful neighborhood should leave Uptown because of the status-quo? No, I don't believe you meant this.

Let's make a deal: I promise not to type things that I know are not true and you think about what you want to say BEFORE YOU TYPE IT.

  27. LOL THIS COMMENT IS FOR ALL U DOG LOVERS THAT CANT FIND YOUR SOUL MATE HAHAHAHA!!!! YALL COME INTO UPTOWN BUYING THESE RENOVATED APARTMENTS THAT TURNED INTO CONDOS AT A REASONABLE PRICE!!!! BUT NOT ONE DID YALL FIND OUT UPTOWN HISTORY BECAUSE THE MEDIA TIL THIS DAY MAKE UPTOWN SEEN LIKE A FRIENDLY EUROPEAN NEIGHBORHOOD!!! UPTOWN HAS A VARIATION OF CULTURES!!! BUT THEY DONT TELEVISE NONE OF THIS!!! WHEN YALL HEAR OF UPTOWN WHAT THE 1ST THING COMES TO MIND?? AL CAPONE , THE GREEN MILL, AND NICE LANDMARKS!!!! ALL IM SAYING IS THAT ONE LIE IF FOLLOWED BY OTHER LIES!!! SO IF YOU ALL WOULD SPEAK THE TRUTH AND NOT WHAT U THINK OR HEARD THEN THIS SITE WOULD BE FOR A BETTER CAUSE!!! BUT I MUST SAY THAT I HAVE READ A BUNCH OF FALSE INFORMATION ON HERE FROM YOU ALL!!! YALL HAVE A BLESSED DAY AND STOP BEING CULTURALLY BIASED ALL THE TIME!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Uptown - so what you are saying is that crime is a culture, and if we don't like it, then we are culturally "biased" a.k.a. racist? Yea, I've seen that card pulled so many times its dog-earred.

Oh, and there are people on this blog that don't live in condos and have lived here for probably a lot longer than you've been alive and they too, think the crime needs to end.

As far as your dog comment...let me guess, you're one of those guys who swagger down the street like you're maja gangsta but you jump and shriek like a little girl when someone walks their chihuahua by you, like its a tiger.

I'd rather deal with the dogs pissing on the lawns than the drunk, crazy homeless people taking a dump on the lawn in broad day light.

And I'd take the whizzing dogs any day over the endless bags of flaming hot cheetos, and empty pop bottles that litter the streets on a daily basis.

I'll definitely take the whizzing dogs over whizzing bullets too. It's a lot easier to get urine out of my clothes than it is blood.

  29. caps lock is usually located to the right of the "A" key. please click it, UPTOWN. thanks, have a blessed day, chill out, and DO SOMETHING about the violence in uptown rather than just being complacent. obviously what YOU are doing to calm the violence is not working.

  30. "YALL HAVE A BLESSED DAY AND STOP BEING CULTURALLY BIASED ALL THE TIME!!!!"

Hmmmm....as she attacks Dog Owners, Property Owners, European Neighborhoods, & Chicago PD. Seems the only culture Uptown has tolerance for is the criminal culture. Well at least she blessed me, so that makes it all better.

I almost long for the days of Billy Joe posting on this blog.

oops got to run....there is a Dog pissing on my grass...

    ReplyDelete
  31. So, you accuse posters of false information, yet you continue to spread the false argument that "being concerned about crime" somehow equals "culturally biased?"

    Nice try.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm not sure how someone can compare rude dog owners to armed criminals? I noticed Wilbur had a busted lip. I bet he "fell down" on his way to the police station due to the icy winter. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, for God's sake, guys...Uptown is obviously a troll whose posts are designed to whip people into a frenzy. I wouldn't even take him seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is crazy yes Uptown has been a violent neighborhood in the past years. I would say this condo thing started like early 2000's, open lots were made into beautiful condos, more business has came to uptown also around the early 2000's. Before really like 2002 i would say uptown wasn't the best looking neighborhood nor a peaceful neighborhood. Someone mentioned the violence in Uptown's past earlier. I would say Uptown has became a better neighborhood throughout the years. However violence is disturbing to all, but it happens everywhere. And Uptown's history with violence does not give a reason to carry on with violence. But people have to recognize this fact violence will never stop (unless we all work together to bring peace among all of us as a community. Which consists of Blacks, Whites, Asians Hispanics and every other ethnic groups Uptown has. I say everyone that sits up on their A** at their computer and insults another maybe because their lifestyle and to insult Helen Schiller are ignorant and misguided. Put yourself in Wilbur's shoes or anyone else that lives this rough lifestyle, (I'm not making excuses for any actions); But think about it... Most gang members start off as a adolescence, then gets convicted (lets use a drug crime for example), and after the conviction they go off to prison, boot camp or maybe even by luck can get probation from the Judge. They realize that life is not what they want and try to make it better for themselves. They may have to go through many obstacles to really clean up their troubles they've created and are willing to take upon steps to change their life. BUT society give up on them. Its very hard to obtain a studio apartment after conviction and even harder to get a job at Mcdonalds. Then they're looked down upon by people who has just moved into a neighborhood as if their shit doesn't stink. Harassed by CPD if even seen on the streets enjoying a little air and end back up back in prison. And the process just recycles itself. If "criminals" have a second opportunity to fix their life they would, but they don't and chances are they wont.

  35. I do agree though Uptown is falling. But its not to drug sales. Its falling to lack of respect. You must give respect to get it. Try Acknowledging a drug dealer when you see one, speak to him/her tell him/her good morning instead of walking in the grass while they're on the concrete with your head down scared. Making unnecessary phone calls to the police ruining futures. Who knows some may be trying to hustle for tuition, jobs are down and selling drugs is the only way in their power to pursue their career.Uptown lets try a different approach, everyone wants to make it better. Try understanding first then try to help change the way things are. Because the more criminals go in the more criminals come out. And that free man leaving the penitentiary wants that better life but without help they go back to crime. That is all for tonight think about it though, if anyone feels what I'm saying is true or somewhat true support me with this one. And in due time we will get the Uptown that we are all dreaming about.

    ReplyDelete
  36. North said: "Making unnecessary phone calls to the police ruining futures."

    Are you insane?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Not saying calling the police is unnecessary, but I feel its not my business or anyone else to go snooping into other peoples business. A person who sells drugs is not necessarily selling drugs for a bad cause. Some might even be selling drugs to feed their families. Who knows. I've mentioned a guy in another blog that was with this one, the user must have not wanted everyone to see the rest. If he/she had, I bet there would be more understanding to my concept I am trying to get people to understand. Maybe he/she doesn't want readers to understand what I'm saying. But I'm going to leave it with this a drug dealer saves your life, are you going to look at him/her as a criminal or as a hero?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Try Acknowledging a drug dealer when you see one, speak to him/her tell him/her good morning instead of walking in the grass while they're on the concrete with your head down scared.

OK, I thought Uptown was off his/her rocker, but this bit of wisdom takes the cake. Greet the drug dealer with a hearty hello and wish him a great day? Seriously? You've obviously been partaking of some of the drug dealer's wares.

Drug dealers are directly or indirectly connected to the shootings, murders, assaults, etc. Establishing territory, etc. involve violent acts, not being a kind neighbor. The drug dealers isn't the dry cleaner or the mailman or the bus driver. Accepting him or her as just another part of the community is insane. Respect the drug dealer? Tell him to earn it first.

I hope you were being ironic or sarcastic. If not, your ability to continue existing is truly amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  39. C'mon North -- there wouldn't be shootings if there wasn't a "turf war." There wouldn't be a "turf war" if Uptown's drug market was unprofitable. Drug dealers = part of the problem regardless of their "REASON" for selling. ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  40. "North" -- you asked, I'm going to answer.

I'm going to look at a drug dealer as a criminal.

    Want to know why?

    BECAUSE IT'S AGAINST THE LAW!!!

    It's criminal.

There aren't any hero's that deal drugs and endanger people on the streets with their turf wars.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  41. You Know Meg said it the best "Drug dealers = part of the problem regardless of their "REASON" for selling. ridiculous." I really can't argue with that. But I'mWatchingToo, You said "I'm going to look at a drug dealer as a criminal" That's crazy! After he/she saved your life. Um... SAVED YOUR LIFE! I don't think you would remain on earth without the drug dealer SAVING YOUR LIFE!
Also you said "There aren't any hero's that deal drugs." In 2009, I was walking down Lawrence and made a right turn down Kenmore and no more than 10 steps walking down Kenmore someone attempted to jump on me and rob me. I thought he was going to keep punching me until a black man came and helped to my aid. He fought with the robber until the robber ran off towards Argyle. While fighting with the robber the man dropped a little ball with crack rocks inside. Then I realized he was a dealer. I picked the package up and handed it to him and thanked him. From then on I realized some dealers may not be as bad as a person may think. So I'mwatchingtoo, You ought to be ashamed of yourself a man saves your life and you still treat him like a criminal! And Man on the streets, No I will never partake in any drug dealer's wares. But I will also never come to the internet to disrespect anyone not even a drug dealer. What that shows is cowardly characteristics!

    ReplyDelete
  42. So,lemme get this logic straight: if ONE drug dealer saves one person's life, then ALL drug dealers should be allowed to roam freely throughout Uptown, conducting illegal activities that include ENDANGERING THE SAFETY OF LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS?!

    I think not!

    ReplyDelete
  43. From then on I realized some dealers may not be as bad as a person may think.

Just when you think that there's no way TWO people could be that oblivious.

One good deed does not a respectible citizen make. In your book, Bonnie and Clyde were to crazy kids who occasionally gave money to poor folks instead of the pair who shot a bank guard, robbing a family of their husband and father.

Wake up, if not for the community for your own sake. That same drug dealer would plug you in the head with a .32 if he caught you calling 911 to report his activity on the corner.

But I will also never come to the internet to disrespect anyone not even a drug dealer.

A drug dealer disrespects the entire community by his mere presence. Name one community with active drug dealing on several corners that is safe and clean and a great place to raise a family.

Your priorities and value system are screwed up. For every person that this mythical drug dealer saved from a beat down there are 15 or 20 others that he has supplied drugs to, destroying families, destroying lives and depriving children of a future with a functioning family. So what he stopped someone from jacking you for $20 or whatever?

No wonder society as a whole is so effed up when people are willing to defend drug dealers - DRUG DEALERS - for the flimsiest of reasons. I wouldn't accept it from a member of my own family and i certainly wouldn't accept it on the corner from my house.

    Get a clue.

  45. I'm glad they got the guy with the dreads, Paul. I live by Sunnside Mall and would see him all the time on a bike dealing and called CPD whenever I saw him and I suspected dealing.

UPTOWN. Thanks for starting your comment with LOL, it set the tone for the joke of a comment you have been leaving. Culturally biased? YES, we are culturally biased against the gang culture, violence culture, crime culture, thug culture, and so on.

Sounds like you are the one biased against dog owner culture. Are you really going to bring up peeing dogs when we are talking about aggravated battery with a firearm?
