Gunpowder Summer Continues....

... still no word from the alderman about the nightly gunfire, the shootings, and the murder last week.

907pm: "Just heard about 8 shots about 5+ minutes ago ... police cars all over the place, up and down Malden just north of Montrose ... presumably at the same spot as before."

  1. can't we write to a state representative or US representative that covers this area? can they do anything when city government won't? i know the city is a 'home rule' entity but someone needs to step in. maybe we need to put pressure on Da Mare. nice job, dickey daley!

  2. Heard the same thing, since I'm just south of there. I thought they were fireworks.
There's no fuss or squad car activity at the moment.
Typical party going on, in the alley.

  3. My condo is right across the street from Clarendon park. Being on the 28th floor I face North-West Montrose-Clarendon. I hear gun shots 3 to 4 times a week after midnight sounds like coming from the field-house area. The punks run and jump the fence of the closed maryville building and hide behind the small trees and heavy foilage that has grown wild to hide from the cops if any come. Many residents around here have called and told the Aldermans office yet they care not to hear about it and do nothing.

  4. Some clowns were lighting off fireworks in the alley between Malden and Magnolia north of Montrose, south of Sunnyside. Could it be that the police were there to investigate those?

There are fireworks going off as I write this. And no, they are not gun shots

  5. YOU MIGHT TRY HARRY OSTERMAN. HE'S A GREAT GUY AND REALLY CARES. I HAVE MUCH BETTER LUCK GETTING HIM TO HELP WITH ISSUES THAN THE ALDERMAN.

  6. Yes....10:50 update.
Bottle rocket wars happening as we speak, between the Section 8 on Malden, and the building across the alley on Magnolia.
I've called 911, since a fire hazard is a potential issue.

State rep? Yeah. Greg Harris is well aware and is actually active in public safety concerns.

If there's an event, he's there.

As is Heather Steans. The state senator.

If you're thinking of getting anything from Jan Schakowsky ... lol .. good flippin' luck.

I made an inquiry to her office about any public safety conerns she might have had a few years back and got a rambling anti-Bush letter in response.

Oddly, it was a screed on a matter which had a connection to her husband's prosectution.

Regardless, with regards to Uptown, Jan simply doesn't care until election time - and even then .. meh.

She's more concerned with keeping Evanston happy (the big dollar contributors) and protecting banks (big dollar contributors) and CTA projects (for friends of big dollar contributors) outside of Uptown than she is about the "little people" in her district.

I only bring that up since her name's on the ballot this year, too - and as she's tight with Helen and that mindset, I consider her part of the problem, too.

  8. Fireworks are illegal in IL, just are shooting guns at each other or into the air.

Given that people have been SHOT in that area and people are clearly concerned, how about asking for a little enforcement of all the laws. It's certainly a weapon we have, yet choose not to use.

Are thse kids under 18? If it is happening late, how about enforcing curfew?

NYC didn't get cleaned up by going after drugs and gangs, per say. It was tamed because they went after EVERYTHING.

  9. Yo - is correct regarding Jan. You'll notice she's even Facebook friends with Helen.
