Uptown Square District Receives Unanimous Support From Commission on Chicago Landmarks

The Uptown Square Landmark District has just received unanimous support from the City Commission on Chicago Landmarks! It will now go before city council where it is expected to receive full support. We would like to thank all of the folks who showed up today to voice their support (or opposition) to this. Amazing to think that we now live (and play) in a historic district!

      im CHARLOTTE i born and raised in uptown and theres some stories that never been told about the peoples i was there hillbilly heven know one ever came and tryed to help us peopel and got low houseing ether that a buttch of carp i know the truth from kenmore to broadway to wilson to irvenpark and clark i hung with on lot were truman collage is now i remeber the fires and childen that were there and still are .some pastaway uptown belong the white people that were bruning crosses because they didnt want the blacks to because they were takeing the white girls and getting them drugs and sailing them to the streets and messing there life up that why the were getting burn down cause owner would rent to a black person and KKK said no way and wilson boys was there befor .the gaylords and laten kings these two united togatter .will all that crap being prigist and stupid shit not all the white peopel were in for all the poor of uptown because its a same when somebody says it gang bangers drugs that not true.im the little girl on cover of the uptown colaesonof hellen sheller i bron in 69 we all new each other .and we were no strangers but when it was that they came to us of many colors to help get low houesing bull cramp .truman collage mad shore it didnt happen.and a few others ... from my family to all thne other familys the rich peopel didnt want us there .but il tell you.they coudnt get ride of us if they wanted to or not.i myself is heart of uptown.the there more i could tell you.anyways they or anyone can never change uptown. it still the peopels there today when bron there you .nomatter how far or how many years the good peopels no one ever try to help. raelize we are the heart of uptown..... the truth is better to hear or read .

    Does anyone know if that photo of Uptown in the "1930s" (judging from the autos, I suspect it might be the late 1920s)is somewhere available for purchase in a poster format?
