Presto Change-o -- Firehouse By Design

Before (via Google Streetview)

Now
The empty firehouse on the 1200 block of Gunnison was certainly undistinguished. We never even noticed it across from the Bezazian Library. When the developer Cedar Street announced in November 2014 that it was seeking a zoning change to rehab the firehouse into apartments, it was the first time we ever really took a look.

And now, the firehouse is done and ready for tenants. It's quite a turn-around in a short time from a board-up to a funky rehab. You can see its transformation here in previous Uptown Update posts. The official webpage is here.

  1. They did a great job with the exterior. Clean and modern but yet still maintains the feel of the neighborhood. A huge improvement over what was there.

  2. There's a reason you never noticed it across the street from the Bezazian library...because it's not. This firehouse cum loft is on a different street a block (a long block) away from the library.

    1. And that's what happens when you blog at 3 a.m. after Mardi Gras! Correction noted.

  3. The Bezazian library is on Ainslie while this building is on Gunnison. There's a reason you never noticed it across the street...because it isn't.

  4. Looks good- but the flats caused nothing but headaches for us that live in the Gunnison Lofts next door during this remodel- blocking our driveway to our parking and causing a lot of headaches for us- these contractors need to be mindful of the neighbors-

  5. Dear residents of Gunnison Lofts: Before you take others to task for blocking entrances and sidewalks, you need to correct your own behavior. Residents of this building regularly park on the sidewalk in front of the service garage opening onto Gunnison and block all pedestrian traffic. I'm forced off the sidewalk onto the street several times every single week because residents parking on the sidewalk. And, not once did I have to walk around a Flats construction vehicle.
