Uptown/Andersonville Doctor Is A CNN "Hero"

Dr. Daniel Ivankovich, a local orthopedic surgeon, has been selected by CNN as one of its “Heroes of 2015”. The award recognizes Dr. Ivankovich's dedication and service to Chicago's underserved. In addition to his regular practice at Methodist Hospital (Paulina & Winnemac), Dr. Ivankovich operates a clinic at South Shore Hospital for patients regardless of their ability to pay.

CNN's award pays tribute to the fact that Dr. Ivankovich donates his services to, writes off charges for, or doesn't bill a significant number of patients. Many of these patients are from Chicago's most underserved neighborhoods. Because many have Medicare or no insurance, he is often their only hope.

Dr. Ivankovich has already been honored as one of Chicago Magazine’s Chicagoans of the Year for 2010.  In 2011, he was awarded the Dana & Christopher Reeves Foundation's Inspiration Award. and was National Association of Social Workers Chicago Chapter’s 2010 Public Citizen of the Year.
