Department Of Buildings Closes Magnolia/Wilson Store

Top Choice Food Mart, in the infamous Wilson/Magnolia strip mall, has been closed by the Department of Buildings, as its orange sticker signifies.

We did some online sleuthing and found out it failed a major inspection yesterday.  The report reads:  "REPAIR OPEN VIOLATIONS, CLOSE ALL OPEN JUNCTION BOXES AND ELIMINATE EXTENSION CORDS AND REPAIR EXIT SIGNS."

When and if the dangerous situations are fixed to the Buildings Inspector's satisfaction, Top Choice will have the option to reopen.

Thank you to Graceland Wilson Neighbors Association for taking the photo and posting it to UU's Facebook page.

  3. This place needs to close up for good. It's an absolute hole that seems to attract plenty of loiterers, regardless of the numerous NO LOITERING signs posted. Top Choice is terrible.

  4. This is truly a case of addition by subtraction.

  5. This store will not be missed. They catered to the local gangsters & had vagrants lingering around throughout the day. They also sold the XXL White T shirts that seem to be the "gang uniform" of todays youth.

  6. This building will be condemned very soon. There are major structural issues that the absentee landlord has ignored for years. This crappy strip mall will be 100% vacant within the next few months.

  7. I think you guys are missing something. This store isn't going anywhere if the owners decide to make the ordered repairs.

  8. I just read a article on DNA info regarding Ald Cappleman. It appears he is going to use the NYC "broken windows" crime fighting approach. He wants to target public drinking & vagrancy. I've been saying that on here for years. It's good to see this Alderman going in the right direction.

  9. Has anyone noticed if Subway started remodeling their space? Please correct me if I’m wrong but from what I can tell, they haven’t. Isn’t it strange for a restaurant to abruptly close for remodeling but then not start remodeling? Is it just a coincidence that the building inspectors started showing up and all of a sudden that mall is turning into a ghost town?

    1. very interesting point. i haven't noticed any action at the Subway either, but the people working there always struck me as good, honest people. i feel like they would have been about keeping everything in order there, but then again, you never know.

  11. It appears that they have reopened. I drove by today and the "open" sign was lit, and I saw people behind the register. That's right, I SAW people behind the register because they cleared all that crap from the windows. You can actually see inside the store now.
