"Has anyone noticed dead squirrels in the parkway/sidewalk area? If so, where?
We found TWO in our front yard this morning north end, west side 4700 block of Dover Street. Also saw a dead squirrel on the east side, midway up the 4700 block last week and one on the 4600 block within last two weeks.
Squirrels can carry and succumb to West Nile Virus. The city does not do testing. On request they only come and dispose of the bodies.
This is probably caused by poison, not illness.
Dog owners be careful. People have poisoned peanuts and other items dogs will eat to kill squirrels.
Parents may want to keep a sharp eye on toddlers at the put anything in their mouth stage."
The squirrels on Malden are the worst! They love to leave chicken bones and pizza crusts on my patio. Stupid squirrels.
ReplyDeleteI saw one on the 5100 block of Kenmore on Friday and personally picked two out of my yard over the past six months. I called 311 to report them.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't this happen to the stupid rabbits?!
ReplyDeleteDead squirrels, that is.
ReplyDeletePlease report anything unusual to Project Squirrel (http://bit.ly/11bOiFl). It's a joint project of the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and Univ. of Illinois. They have a lot of reliable info on natural life cycles and hazards, and collect & aggregate data. Squirrels, like other city wildlife, give clues to environmental changes & hazards on a local level.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why anyone would want to kill rabbits & squirrels.
ReplyDeleteBecause when you plant stuff in the yard and then have rabbits chew everything up, sometimes to the ground, you wish they would disappear. They are a pain! Squirrels? They like to chew the wood on decks. They're not as annoying as rabbits, but annoying nonetheless. I can tolerate them, however.
ReplyDeleteDead squirrel seen near west street curb in 4700 block of Malden today...
