Seeking Court Advocates

From Ald. Cappleman's latest newsletter:

Calling all Exemplary Citizens!  Keeping the 46th Ward a safe and welcoming environment is no easy task. This is precisely why we are seeking persons in the neighborhood who have a passion to help rid the ward of crime in this historic area.

We are seeking citizens to become Court Advocates for the 46th Ward. A Court Advocate is a person that follows cases that happen in this community. Their purpose is to represent our community by being present during these cases, and in showing judges that this type of crime is unacceptable.

I myself am a court advocate, and am currently following three cases. One such case is beat #2024, the case of Spencer Martin. This case pertains to a man who is currently facing seven counts of murder and life imprisonment. With ending this cycle of gang violence in the Uptown neighborhood, we are also following an attempted murder case in which a Latin King shot three rounds at a Gangster Disciple. Beat #2024 concerning Christian Aguirre is in the near stages of completion, and intends to put this man away for 6 years for his unlawful use of a firearm.

Court Advocates are here to make sure these crimes cease in the neighborhood, and show those working in the courts that persons in the 46th ward will no longer stand for this type of behavior. Interested residents should email dana@james46.org or call 773-878-4646 for more information on the court advocacy program.
