Update On Last Week's Barricade Situation

It's been a fast news cycle lately -- to put it mildly -- so we're going to try to wrap some things up in the next couple days with more information on the events that took place in Uptown over the past week.

The pieces are slowly starting to fall into place about why there was such a large response to the three men barricaded inside 4639 N Broadway last week.

Turns out there were weapons:  a .40-caliber handgun, a .45-caliber handgun, a 223 rifle with a scope and a bulletproof vest.

And it turns out there were three wanted men in there who were charged with a November murder in South Bend:
"Bryant Hunt is charged with murder in connection with the Nov. 18 death in South Bend of 31-year-old Dietrich Perkins. Hunt also is charged with attempted robbery.

A fourth person also is believed to have surrendered to authorities, but there was no word tonight about whether there are any charges against him. Bentley says 20-year-old Sylvester Gamer is charged with aiding in murder and 18-year-old Forest Lamar Jr. is charged with assisting a criminal. Hunt and Gamer are being held without bond and Lamar was being held on $500,000 bond."
According to an Indiana paper, "Hunt faces one count of felony murder, a Class A felony, one count of attempted robbery, a Class C felony, and one count of auto theft, a Class D felony."

So let's see...
  • An alleged murderer and two accomplices, trapped inside a building, with high-power weapons...
  • the building surrounded by local and state law enforcement agents, as well as federal agents, all armed to the teeth...
  • and a lot of citizens living within shooting range. What could have possibly gone wrong!?

When we had our little smuggled-in transistor radio hidden beneath our desk at Stewart School in 1970, we never thought we'd get to live through a live version of this song, just a couple blocks away.  Life in Uptown, never a dull moment.

  1. I see your "Indiana Wants Me" and raise you "Baby, it's you."

I dedicate this song to the local bangers who recently became guests of the county or lay wounded in local hospitals. This is for you guys. Think about your compatriots who lay a-mouldering in the grave as you sing along.

Many, many, many nights go by.
I sit alone at home and cry over you.
    What can I do?
    Don't want nobody, nobody
    Cause, baby, it's you.
    Baby, it's you.

Is it true what they say about you?
They say you'll never, ever, never be true.
It doesn't matter what they say.
I know I'm gonna love you any old way.
    What can I do?
    What 'bout you?
    Don't want nobody, nobody.
    Baby, it's you.
    Baby, it's you.
