Another video from David Stratis, highlighting Uptown's cinematic history. "For those who may have seen these highlights in the longer history animation originally posted on the Magnolia Malden Neighbors web site, a new soundtrack has been added, and it has been edited down to show some of the more interesting highlights of this exciting piece of neighborhood history.
Below are two Essanay movies, filmed by the Argyle Street Studio, that also feature new soundtracks:
- “Vox Lumiere – A Christmas Carol” – In 1908, Uptown Chicago’s Essany Studios filmed the very first movie with “A Christmas Carol” in the title. The remaining footage was pieced together with an updated soundtrack here.
- “Essanay Studios Chicago Short Film” – This footage was pieced together with a new soundtrack from the New Order song, “Age of Consent.”
On November 19th, Chicago rock band “Joan of Arc” performed a new commissioned soundtrack to this classic piece of cinematic history in the former Essanay Studios sound stage. (now home to St. Augustine College, at 1345 W. Argyle Street in Uptown.)"
Wonderfully done! Thanks so much for packing the high amount of history into such a small amount of "space." More of this sort of thing, please!
