We Are Not Alone

Plenty of creatures roaming around.  Uptown's famous for its peregrine falcons.  And of course the many, many bunny rabbits everywhere.  We're still pretty freaked out by the Wilson Avenue coyote from last winter.

Just this month readers have sent in photos of these visitors:

in Buena Park

"Was surprised to see a deer hanging out in our backyard
on the 1400 block of Winnemac this Memorial Day weekend!"

  1. The Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course at the lake is full of Raccoons as is Graceland cemetery. Always creepy to see the glowing eyes while walking by.

  3. Note to public record: the raccoon's name never was and never will be Bambell. Ever. And he's not a spirit animal.

  4. there is a giant raccoon (or a more than one, perhaps) who strolls across my deck almost nightly. the dog goes insane every time. last summer, there was often a huge albino possum out there. crazy!

  5. There are quite a few rogue possums that haunt the areas around St. Boniface Cemetery, but they're just too ugly to want to photograph.

  6. Take a GOOD look at those raccoons.

These days in Uptown it could just as easily be a masked man with a gun!

  7. A few years ago, I saw a Great Horned Owl at Foster, and I often see coyotes near the cemeteries. I love that the city still has a wild side.

  8. We have some Possum in Sheridan Park. I saw a young one about the size of a burrito last night.

Except for the rat-like tail they are kinda cute.

  10. Possums are the nerds of the animal kingdom. They're unattractive, unathletic, they have strange hobbies like hanging upside down by their tails and letting their children ride on them. They read science fiction, and they like to dress up for star trek conventions, and they talk with a back-of-the mouth lisp.

  11. In the last few years at the Montrose Dunes and Magic Hedge I've seen a deer, an owl-don't know what kind, a coyote, and red fox on a couple occasions.
