... And No Fireworks, Either

For those of us who enjoyed seeing "the rocket's red glare" from close to home last summer, some disappointing news:  According to the Facebook page for the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (which is the new "Mayor's Office For Special Events"), Chicago will have no three-way Independence Day fireworks show in 2011, as they did (with much success) in 2010. We won't even get a Grant Park show.

Instead: "The July 4th fireworks will be at Navy Pier this year. There will not be multiple locations like last year." Bummer.

  1. That's too bad. I enjoyed the fireworks at Montrose Harbor very much last year.

  2. Same here. Me and my fiance enjoyed walking to Montrose beach (We got to "walk" home too... woohoo!) to enjoy the fireworks. So much more enjoyable than dealing with thousands of tourist.

  3. I think this is a reasonable fiscal decision.

  4. A traffic, crowd-control and law-enforcement nightmare - even worse than Grant Park!

No thanks - unless I get a boat ride that night.

a traffic nightmare-we couldn't event park on our own streets.
I'm not sad to see it go.
