What A Difference Windows Make

A sharp-eyed reader caught a glimpse of a familiar building on Wilson under the L tracks from the movie "The Package" starring Gene Hackman. The movie was made in 1989 so this stretch of Wilson looked quite a bit better back then, not boarded up and covered in graffiti like today. Check out the view below we are all accustomed to today, another decrepit, CTA-owned retail space in Uptown.

  1. If I'm not mistaken, we're there also scenes from "Things Change" filmed there, as well as a couple of other movies?

  2. Kinda' sad. I remember when it was a restaurant. I chipped a tooth in there one morning, on a piece of toast! But it wasn't the toast's fault, the tooth was weak, it just needed that one last thing. And yeah, that pawn shop. I never went in there, but I always liked the glass blocks on the place.

  3. Adjacent to the west (at 1117) where the glass block is/was, was the Planet Mars, where jazz singer Anita O'Day got her start.
