Wow, nice "farewell."
Ald. Michael Zalewski suggests eliminating or consolidating four City Council committees when their committee heads retire next year: Environment Committee Chairman Ginger Rugai (19th); Transportation Committee Chairman Tom Allen (38th);
Human Relations Committee Chairman Helen Shiller (46th) and
Parks and Recreation Committee Chairman Mary Ann Smith (48th).
Not exactly a glowing tribute to the work done by those committees and aldermen.
Read the whole story in the Sun-Times.
Why wait until then? No time like the present.
ReplyDeleteWell, in fairness, the only criterion he seems to be using for elimination is whether the head is leaving. Seems more like attrition than a judgment on the work (if any) of the committee.
ReplyDeletenot gonna happen - not now, not later, no way
ReplyDeletetoo many sons & daughters & nieces & nephews on those committee payrolls
head count exempt from the Shakman monitor is fricken golden
even if the committees went away the headcount would merely shift to the ones that are left, net net no gain for the sad sack civilian taxpayer
"A powerful alderman ... Ald. Michael Zalewski ... "
ReplyDeletespit-take!
"Zalewski is the first City Council powerhouse to ..."
ReplyDeleteoh, come on, Fran
"The last couple of years, we've been inundated with service requests. Reducing the size of the City Council would diminish the ability of our constituents to receive those services."
ReplyDeleteso...
fix 311?
In the last 15 years, Alderman Michael Zalewski had no real competitors. When smart people run against a tyrant, the truth bleeds through. Love the CBS story!
ReplyDeleteAfter 15 years of service, Zalewskis response to the illegal use of park district property, "I have no clue". LOL
