No Lifting The Broadway/Wilson Liquor Moratorium?

Interesting.  Could it be that Ald. Shiller is permanently backing away from allowing package liquor sales on Broadway and Wilson, or is she waiting until things cool off and not as many eyes are on her?

A reader writes:  "I called Shiller's office again to see if I could get any more info. I asked again the reason she is proposing to lift it and was told: 'The reason is because the Target had moved in and can sell liquor because they are across the line. Aldi can't sell liquor.'

I asked when the next meeting was be. I was then put on hold. When the person came back on the line she said, 'It's not being lifted.'

I then called Schulter's office to see if I could get a copy of the agenda. The person I spoke with said that the agenda usually comes out 3-7 days beforehand (three days is the requirement). I then specifically asked about the Broadway/Wilson moratorium, and she said, 'Is that Shiller's proposal - the Aldi thing?' I replied that yes, it is. She said that it was her belief that Shiller was not going to move forward with that proposal to lift the moratorium.

Good news, if true! I'll still keep an eye on out for the final agenda."

  1. Wait, so Target CAN sell liquor? The other day when I went they weren't, but perhaps it's because they haven't received their liquor license yet?

  2. First she stops the Maryville mess and now delays lifting the moratorium. The beast may be a destoyer but she isn't stupid. What's she up to?

Shiller's "victory lap" media tour is all part of a concerted campaign to run again for alderman. In September she will announce that an overflow of love and support from the community has caused her to change her mind and run for reelection.

    You heard it here first!

    P.S.

I don't really believe that, but I can hope. After all if Shiller is Moby Dick and I'm Captain Ahab then the "ending" has to be more dramatic.

This not running again takes away most of my fun.

... to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee.

That just doesn't work very well against Nowotny.

  5. Just because Target CAN sell liquor due to zoning doesn't mean they have a license to do it. They also aren't selling any as far as I can see. There is no liquor area, signage, or bottles.

So lifting the moratorium seemed like putting the carriage before the horse anyways.
