Prepare To Be Amazed & Astonished
A reader sends in this photo and info:
"I was walking to "Broadway Cafe" earlier next to T-Mobile and noticed all sorts of work taking place in the 4600 block of blight on Broadway. Workers were sawing into the sidewalk in front of the Wilson L entrance on Broadway and I noticed spray-painted marks all over the sidewalk like the photo I sent (on the right). I asked one of the workers what was going on and he said they were installing new lighting in the 4600 block of Broadway!
As usual, no info on this can be found on Shiller's non-informative website.

I can think of some other things that need to be removed in that block, also...
ReplyDeleteThis is good news and makes sense to do 4600 as well and go to Leland, the ward dividing line.
ReplyDeleteNow if we could only get Mary Ann to have the lights painted or replaced at Lawrence and Broadway....
Lipstick on a pig comes to mind, though I'm sure it can't hurt to improve this area cosmetically. What really needs to be done is to sharply decrease the numbers of addicts, criminals, and the homeless that hang out on Wilson & Broadway. I avoid this intersection, and the local businesses, because I don't want to be offered sexual services, I don't want people begging me for money, and it's just dirty (as are the vagrants).
ReplyDeleteremoving even just the cosmetic blight is a step in the right direction... think broken windows theory.
ReplyDeletethat block of broadway is easily the ugliest in uptown.
And what perfect timing, what with all the people coming into our fair neighborhood in the next few weeks with the Ribfest and Target opening. At least those people who's opinion really count will be impressed with the progress - the people that don't live here.
ReplyDeleteMinor progress is still progress!
