A reader sent in this photo and caption saluting Ald. Mary Ann Smith for her work with the parks and kids' sports:
"At the Foster soccer field dedication this past Saturday, Coach Ray Groble and an American Youth Soccer Organization soccer player presented AYSO t-shirts to 48th Ward Ald. Mary Ann Smith and two dudes who have done nothing for us lately. Alderman Smith, who also chairs the City Council Parks Committee, revealed that she spent over $14,000,000 of her aldermanic menu funds on parks during her 21 years in office. That is a whopping percentage of her total, given that the aldermanic menu fund is now only $1.3 million per year and was much less during her first years in office. Chicago’s AYSO, an all-volunteer non-profit based in Ravenswood, provides free coaching, funding, soccer programs, and team organization for over 3000 Chicagoland children. Bravo, AYSO & Alderman Smith! We thank you."
Funny, but I can't think of any 'salutations' or honors going to MY Alderman in the 46th.
ReplyDeleteNothing.....Nada.
Speaking of which.....are there any polls, or data, showing the 'popularity' of each particular ward's Alderman?
I'd love to know how Helen rates, in the list of the 50 wards. Might be a good future story for Chicago Magazine, or the Reader.
