Kuma-n Over To Uptown

From Chicago Magazine's Weekly Restaurant E-Mail Newsletter‏:

“Totally untrue.” –Michael Caine, the owner of Kuma’s Corner (2900 W. Belmont Ave.; 773-604-8769), in response to rumors that he’s secured a place in Uptown for a second Kuma’s. While it’s true that he wants to open a second location and that Uptown is his number-one neighborhood for it, Caine is putting off scouting a place until after he recovers from a knee surgery next month.

  1. At one time, Kuma's on Diversey was a decent place to hang. Now the LOUD heavy metal music and elbow-to-elbow douchebag factor is so high that it makes anything else sound like a better idea.

  2. I love Kuma's -- especially the fact that there are burger options for folks like me who don't eat red meat. Don't mind anything except the wait, which is insane.

I find myself going over there for lunch on weekdays... any other time means a long wait outside. I'm too old to be thrilled enough about anywhere I have to wait in line to spend money.

I'm thrilled to find out that Uptown is the owner's first pick for a second restaurant. Could be great for businesses nearby the new location, whatever it may be.

  3. I make a point of not patronizing any restaurants that require absurd wait times. I guarantee that I can find equal or better fare somewhere else.

  5. No one goes to Kuma's anymore. It's too crowded.

  6. Wasn't there some talk that he might be opening a soul food restaurant on Broadway? Is there still going to be a soul food place there? (hope so)

  7. I wish there was a place that could do better than the Lair of the Minotaur burger, med rare with a nice beer. But until then, I will be Kuma's biatch.
