Shots Fired At Sunnyside & Magnolia

We've gotten several reports from readers who live near Sunnyside and Magnolia that all heard around 5 gunshots fired at 3:30am. Add any other details in the comments.

  1. Didnt hear a thing. I did catch a young male "pleasuring himself" at Stockton Elementary around 4pm on Saturday. Police response was 15 minutes. By then his hands were free and long gone.

  2. These 5 shots woke me up and I'm on Magnolia just north of Wilson. Would love more information if anyone knows anything.

  3. I was on my way home about that time last evening and did not hear nor see any Police response to gunfire in the area.

If it happened did anyone call 911?

  4. I heard the shots from halfway down the block and called 911 immediately, at 3:27am. Meanwhile, I watched several people walking in and out of the CHA building north of the mall, two walked across the street to the other CHA building, then a car pulled up and talked to some of them for a few minutes. The car had just left when the cops showed up at 3:42am. It appeared that they searched the ground for casings, and they did go into the gate at the CHA building north of the mall (sorry, I don't know the address), but then they left. Hopefully they haven't forgotten about us while concentrating on the gang fights on Sheridan!

  5. Yes, a number of us called 911 immediately. The building north of the mall is 4510 N. Magnolia (which has been a 'problem building' in the past). It's not clear whether the shots were fired by or at people there, or somewhere else close by like the mall.

  6. If you call the community policing office of the district you called 911 on they can give information on what happened with the call. They can also tell you how many other people called 911 etc.

  7. How many shootings is that in the past year?

  8. I heard them as well. I'm just north of the mall and could tell that they we very close by.

I figure there are slim chances this will end up counting as a "crime" since it doesn't appear that anybody was hit by a bullet or arrested for possession of an illegal firearm. Got to keep those statistics looking good for the IOC!

  9. There is no case report unless something or someone it hit. If nothing is hit the radio assignment is ended by a code. I'm sure you can find the code codes mean though google. Example 5-F: 5 means misc. disturbance and F means peace restored

  10. Sorry but i forgot to add this. Its not a tracked crime unless someone/something is it or an arrest of someone with a gun is made.

  11. Shots fired at Malden and Leland on Monday, Sept. 7 approximately 5:30 pm. Police took 10 minutes to arrive...no arrests, nothing. Gang bangers have been at this corner for past 3 days straight and we all knew something was going to go down soon. Neighbors are very upset and frustrated. We all know the gang bangers (some have pictures of them) that are causing this problem, yet nothing can seem to stop them from doing whatever they want to!

  12. I think it may be time to have a large group of taxpayers hang out at Malden/Leland to essentially surround the gangbangers. They will leave. Then we can leave. When they return, just send a "tweet" or email to get people back out. We can also help pool some funds (it does not cost that much) to get them on camera with a live feed to the police.

  13. I heard those shots as well and I live on Beacon/Leland and was shocked I didn't hear sirens. I teach in a poor part of Bronzeville and I feel safer there than I do in Uptown.

  14. I think a better idea would be to get a group together that have video camera's and just stand across the street video taping everything these thugs do. Sidewalks are a public area and therefore nobody standing there has the assumption of privacy. I think it would have the same affect as a well lit area at night. They will scatter like roaches if they are up to no good PLUS with more than one camera rolling they will think twice before doing anything stupid.
