Apply for Long-Time Occupant Homeowner Exemption

From Ald. Gene Schulter's (47th Ward) weekly email blast:

Are you a homeowner who has lived in your home for 10 years or more? Is your household income less than $100,000? If so, you can qualify for a Long-Time Occupant Homeowner Exemption for your property taxes.

Under this exemption, a homeowner with a total household income of $75,000 or below will have an increase limited to 7% over the prior year's taxable value, with no maximum exemption amount. A homeowner with a total household income greater than $75,000 but less than $100,000 will have an increase limited to 10% over the prior year's taxable value, with no minimum exemption amount.

The Long-Time Occupant Exemption cannot be received with the 7% Expanded Homeowner Exemption or the Senior Freeze Exemption. The most beneficial exemption will be applied to the property. If you qualify and would like to apply for this exemption, you should have received an application in the mail. If you did not receive an application, please visit our [Ald. Schulter's] office on Tuesday, May 26 to pick up an application. Applications must be submitted to the Cook County Assessor's Office by Wednesday, May 27.
