A reader spotted this "Five Day Notice" on the window of the Leland side of the
"Majestic Store for Men" at Broadway and Leland. The notice is dated March 9 and states the owner owes $3,630 in back rent and was to be paid in full within 5 days or their lease would be terminated. It's now March 18 and the store looks to be closed up. We hope that whatever is in this building's future, a complete rehab to its
original glory is included.
Where the heck am I supposed to get my suits? (For halloween, that is. )
ReplyDeleteI spoke to the "owner" of the store and he said that part of the ceiling caved in and that's the reason he is closed.
ReplyDeleteHe wears beat up gym shoes but drives a pretty nice van.
I'm not sure what's going on. This store has become a bit of a celebrity in Uptown.
It's been here for several decades.
The problem is that other businesses, some new may be next to go thanks to Bush/Obama and of course the clueless underling American people over which they "rule".

ReplyDeleteI have no idea who you're mocking with this comment. Are you honestly blaming Americans in general for letting the Majestic close?
Yeah it must be closing apparently for the same reason the US Soccer team does not fare well in the Worlds Cup. Which is lack of interest.
ReplyDeleteLove the vintage 'Live Poultry' store of the past.
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to any Uptown business struggling to make it.
Maybe we should study what the post-invasion Baghdad stores are doing?
The Uptown area will be seeing the effects of the economic catastrophe.
ReplyDeleteYou can already see that building has stopped, rental spaces are vacant.
That's the point. And no one, not Obama, not Alderman Schiller, Mayor Daley or any Republican is doing anything to stop it.
National politics do affect this area and it's so unfortunate, in my opinion, because the area was starting to "revitalize".
Uptown has an interesting history, this could have been an entertainment mecca for the city with the Riviera, Uptown, Greenmill, and Aragon as anchors for smaller music, restaurant, theater, art venues.
The key was the Uptown theater.
Poultry was NOT glorious.
ReplyDeleteThe key is NOT the Uptown Theatre. The key is attractive retail that people enjoy visiting. If the Uptown, and those places similar, were so "key" than the Aragon and Riv would look much better on the outside than they do. And while the Aragon does look nicer than its recent past it is still far from a "jewel" in the neighborhood.
