Hungry, Hungry Hippo

We were alerted to this sinkhole, on Lawrence between Magnolia and Malden next to the cemetery sidewalk, last night. We judge it to be close to 4 feet deep and at least 5 feet long. As you can see, the manhole cover has collapsed down into the hole and lots of trash and debris are filling it up. It's a hungry sinkhole. Please use caution if you park on Lawrence and keep all animals and children away! Golly, how many sinkholes have we had in Uptown now? Too bad our TIF money isn't used to fix what it is supposed to: blighted infrastructure and sewers before they start sinking and collapsing.

  1. Hungry, and thirsty, it would appear!

  2. That whole stretch of Lawrence between Broadway and Clark is a disaster. They probably need to dig the whole thing up, and start over. The street is falling apart, and clearly below street level, the water mains and sewers probably need to be updated as well.

  3. Wow that is a really good point UU. What things have the Wilson Yard TIF paid for that are not new to the area. They build a new Adli, a new parking garage for Truman, the new low-income "luxury condos", and a new Target store. Never mind the plan to build more low income "condo's" down the street at Clariden. HOW ABOUT HELEN STOP GIVING MONEY AWAY TO DEVELOP THINGS THAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THEIR OWN, IF SHE WOULD JUST ALLOW IT THEM TO, AND START USING IT FOR PROJECTS EVERYONE WHO LIVES IN THE WARD NEEDS LIKE WELL MAINTAINED STREETS AND A WORKING SEWER SYSTEM.

  4. Obviously, she is more concerned about her legacy projects than maintaining the streets where the people who pay property taxes to make her legacy projects happen live!!!!!!!

  5. Also, one can't ignore the Ward menu money that was diverted to Wilson Yard instead of being used for ward maintenance and infrastructure, like it should have been. How much was that again?

  6. I wish everyone would quit bitching about Shiller and start figuring out to make sure she doesn't get re-elected.

  7. I think it's important both to expose all that is unfair, wrong, and corrupt in our ward AND to make sure she does not get re-elected.

  8. Unfortunately, this issue is no way localized to our little slice of heaven. The city and suburban roads are in the worst state of disrepair I have ever seen. Anyone driven Lincoln Ave. between Peterson and Devon? Like the moon. How about east-bound Peterson right before you get to Ridge? And two days ago I thought I lost a wheel from a pothole on an expressway. It's bad out there folks. Historically bad.
