Sad story from the Sun-times....
An elderly man was killed Saturday after being struck by a taxi in the North Side’s Uptown neighborhood, about one block from his home. Minh Pham, 89, of the 4900 block of North Sheridan Road, was hit by a car near Sheridan Road and Ainslie Street, a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.
The incident happened about 9 a.m., when Pham was struck by a taxi cab and initially taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:46 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said. The driver of the cab, a 60-year-old North Side man, was cited for no insurance and failure to exercise due care for a pedestrian in the roadway, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said.
Pham's autopsy is scheduled for Sunday. The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is probing the crash.
"Failure to exercise due care for a pedestrian in the roadway"?? What about vehicular homicide?
