Blue Light Cameras & 911: Together Like PB&J

The city announced today that the blue light cameras are now automatically activated when a 911 call comes in. That means the 911 operator can see real-time video of the area while still on the line.

We're cautiously optimistic that this might help when "shots fired" calls come in. Last summer in Uptown was the worst in memory for that kind of activity.

Read all about it.

  1. still wondering why they're not on all the time.

i hope that this doesn't give the CPD an excuse to reduce the already spare police presence this summer.

  2. Interesting. The blue light cameras are on, and available to the CPD, all of the time.

  3. On another note, there was a guy lying in the street, on Wilson and Broadway Wednesday night, with about 5 police cars. Not sure what was going on?

  6. Do they really start at 5 a.m.?

This is, then, in blatant violation of the ordinance that requires that they start no earlier than 8 a.m.

What can be done to stop this? Does calling 911 help at all?

  7. This is the greatest thing since sliced bead. It's also great to see some of the Homeland Security $$$'s reaching the community level.

Incidentally, D, they are on all the time.

  9. They are hurrying at record pace because of the lawsuit.

Haven't you noticed all of the sudden all the work they are getting done.

Walsh needs the work too with the economy until Daley gets the Olympics here for them.

  11. Apparently the only way to get anything done the right way in this city is to get the media to cover it. Keep writing your emails folks, eventually someone will wanna cover this crap.

Try the local TV stations as the newspapers are obviously not wanting to give an honest assessment of whats really going on in this ward.

  12. I wonder how the police would respond if they were called? It is breaking the law.
