No Accountability

A reader sends in the following photos and writes:
"I walk by 4621 N. Broadway on a regular basis and I love to eat at Thai Uptown, but I've always wondered why there is no accountability for the tenants who live above. I was shocked to see that the tenants, who I assume are named "Timmay" and "Bryan" have written on their door in marker. The side of the door is also covered in some sort of tagging. Earlier this summer when the new alley was poured directly behind this building, I noticed that there were 2 names written in the brand new concrete and guess what it was? Timmay and Bryan. I'm not sure who to contact regarding this but I would think the management company listed as "Malinee Investment 708-275-9285" would be utterly responsible for this blatant lack of respect for the building. I was unable to find a website for the management company. This sure isn't enhancing our bleak retail corridor."

  1. Sheridanparkgrande - their either the next Von Dutch or they're just idiots who are defacing property and not respecting what isn't theirs. My guess is on the latter.

  2. Young creative kids just trying to work as bar tenders, rent cheap space, and fund their artistic endeavors (whether it's music, acting at the annoyance, or street art) is fine by me.

It would be fine by me, too. It would be fine by most of us. In fact, artists housing in Wilson Yard was an idea floated in the early stages -- before we realized Helen and Peter were deadset on creating Holsten/Cabrini Towers -- and was laughed at by Helen, Peter and the Couraj/One supporters.

However, you can have "Young creative kids" living in the neighborhood who don't write on their landlord's door with magic marker. In fact, I bet most of them don't.

I may be old-fashioned, but I don't think a hip neighborhood needs to look like shit.

Timmay and Bryan need to learn a little respect, both for the person whose property they're living in and for the neighborhood.

  3. These Uptown images may not be "art" in the traditional sense, but they sure have the capacity to provoke thought...

  4. WOW! What beckons beyond this lovely neo-colonial door, that Timmmay invites one to push hard and enter?

  5. What's even more interesting is that people choose to move in to Uptown, embrace its "diversity," then mistakenly think that by getting outraged they can therefore prevent this sort of low-level vandalism from occurring.

If they're mad about this stuff, I'd be interested in how they'll react when their cars get vandalized or broken into.

  8. Yeah, I went by last night and the door has been repainted. Hopefully Timmay and Bryan will be gone soon, too.

  9. This is blasphemy!!! Leaving erasable marker on their front door for almost a whole week after New Years ever since it appeared, I know since I have been watching that door everyday for the past year. I can't believe they did not consider the feelings of what other community members in Uptown would think, the most beautiful city in Chicago, where birds chirp all year round, and rainbows shoot up from the ground!! This whole thing is a total lack of respect. That graffiti has burnt holes in my eyes. These guy's need to burn in hell for this. Who would ever do such a thing as to leave their numbers on their own front door and to top it off in erasable marker so it could be taken down later. They must of left their numbers on there so their friends could get in if they did not hear the bell at the new years party I saw them having. Inconsiderate bastards!!!These guys are conniving I tell you. Isn't it illegal to do stuff like this to your own property? I should write a letter to Obama telling him just what is going on in his old hometown of Chicago!!! What evil son's of bitches. They should be burnt and sent to hell for this blasphemy!!! But at last they took down their erasable marker and now I have to find something else to bitch about.
