Success! Dearborn To Install Fence & Lighting

A reader just forwarded us this email with wonderful news:

Dear Concerned Citizen,
I am pleased to inform you that Dearborn is in the process of having a fence installed at our Montrose store along with extra lighting. We appreciate your patience while we get the plans approved and secure the permit to proceed with the work. Please contact me if you have any questions.

  1. Yeah! Now my daughter can stop asking me "what are the crazy people doing".

  2. They'll be leaning on a shiny new fence, I imagine.

  3. Nah, they need a place to sit. Fences don't work very well for that.

  4. When the city got rid of the guardrail-type fence in our alley, that was the end of the daily parties. The good old days when I had to step over broken Four Roses bottles to take out the garbage; When I opened the back gate to see someone's naked butt taking a BM a foot away from me; When my kid couldn't take his nap because there was too much yelling and whoopping in the alley.

I feel sorry for the homeless who have nowhere to go when the shelters kick them out in the morning. They have to spend their days somewhere. But my sympathy ends the minute I've got to pick up their broken booze bottles and hose down their sh*! from my property.

I hope the new fence & lighting at Dearborn help the situation we've all seen there. It's about time! When all the easy places to party are gone, the people who are creating the public nuisance will be forced to move on or get help. I don't see a down side.

  5. I think we need to give these soon to be displaced folks the address for the Catholic Workers House.

  6. An interesting note: I am the recipient of the prompt and courteous email posted here. The original message I sent to their website commented on the HEALTH and safety concerns presented by the lot, and I also pasted a link to the various posts about the problems on Uptown Update. I am glad that they seem to be responding appropriately to these issues that impact not only their business, but the community. Assuming the fence and lighting come true, they have earned my respect as a responsible business.

  7. Nathenial!! Are you out there? I've printed up cards with your address and phone #. I will be out in the Dearborn parking lot handing them out to your new roomies. No, no. No "Thanks" needed. Just want to help you long the road to saving the world from the evil tax paying property owners.

  9. They will be moving 3 doors down to the Jackson Hewitt that is seasonal. I have already called the number (773)769-9100 which transfers you to the Clark store as there is no one in the Montrose store. I told them what was coming their way as soon as that fence is built. Unfortunately I caught this guy completely off guard, but we have already gotten one business to do something about them and can get another.

  12. Well I'm glad to see some progress at last, seeing as how I've contacted D.G. multiple times.

I can't imagine not walking/driving by without the visual assault of the crazy encampment, but here's hoping!

  13. The Chicago Worker house is that house on the 4600 block of Kenmore, filled with neither Catholics nor Workers. They have made an ideology out of poverty (Dorothy Day would be rolling in her grave if she could see this house in action) and spend their days harassing the police, disrupting CAPS meetings and generally waging jihad on evil condo owners
