Discuss Election Night Results Here

Here is your chance to discuss tonight's election results as they are made available. Keep it civil, folks.

  1. If we should keep it civil I should just head out and grab a celebratory 60 pack of Guinness now.

Methinks Chippie Douglas and his GOP chorus are going to be channeling this George C. Scott scene tonight.

  3. IP, Tell me you'll show up at the Spot and I'll come down and buy you a few cold ones.

After we get good and liquored up, we can roam Uptown overturning runaway Aldi shopping carts.

  6. So what do you see for Uptown, tnt? I am very happy that Obama will be our next president. I forget who he said this to but he told one of his close advisers that he didn't want to win if it meant tearing apart the country in order to do so. So how do you think we can carry a little bit of that goodwill into our neighborhood? Change happens block by block...

Congrats to Barack, we have a new President. Not my pick, but he's our new Commander in Chief. Gotta respect that...

Chip and the rest of us will be just fine....

  9. I think that the only way to change uptown without just pushing the unsightly, mentally handicapped, welfare families, and low income, out and into a new neighborhood,is too continue to work with police,to stop the violence, support your local agencies and shelters who contrary to what has been said on this blog previously, work vigorously to place, employ, and educate those who want and need help. The biggest impact that we can have in our community is to stop the pettiness, and start taking care of each other, not just others who look like you, sound like you, spend like you, live like you.We must heal, not just flush the problem away,be willing to stop and at least wonder if you may need to adjust the way you think, deal, move forward, etc. I am excited that our president is ready to lead our country in a new direction,we in uptown need change also, let's just make sure the change serves the interest of every last one of us!

  10. "uhm, FOX News was doing the same thing Zesty.... ;)"

To paraphrase our alderman, "Fox News... not part of my reality."

Fox News could have been pulling red state voting sock monkeys out of their butts and christening them using the Sarah Palin Baby Name Generator, and I wouldn't have known or watched.

BTW, I thought the hologram beaming will.i.am into CNN was creeeeee-py!

Oh, no! This is from JPUSA. You can always tell because they don't know how to use spaces after commas. Not part of the education, apparently.

  12. Jimo: Obama usually gets all the buzz for his speeches but I thought I would just say that I was moved by a lot of what McCain had to say in his concession speech last night. Your candidate was graceful in defeat.

  14. Even now, two days later, this song keeps reverberating in my mind:

"Right here, right now, watching the world wake up from history."

  15. So I am wondering what local residents think about what happened with Prop 8 in California. It seems that the consensus of those looking at the polling data is that blacks and latinos---while resoundingly voting for Obama---do not see the marriage issue in terms of civil rights.

I wonder what others think? From my experience, the gay community and liberal-minded heteros have been welcoming to gay/bi/transgender people of color and that communities such as ours are diverse because of it. I am not gay but it troubles me to think that this heralded election was bittersweet to many.
