A Dimitri vodka bottle and trash collection is what greets our students and they approach the north (1000 W. Wilson) entrance to the new Graeme Stewart School green space.
As shown in the photo, someone has even removed the electrical covers on those spankin' new street lights to check out that sparkling copper wire (ready for the taking), or to make room for their drug stash, just in case a cop ever bothers to patrol this cul-de-sac.
It is beginning to look more and more like an Uptown-kind-of park every day.
Last night when I was walking by, I saw 5 of the lights out at Stewart School. I'm betting the recycling center on the 4700 block of Sheridan just paid out some cash for some brand new copper wire.
ReplyDeleteAny artists out there interested in collecting the trash at this site and doing an art installation? I am sure enough material will collect in the next few months to make something.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the recycling center: I am so thankful we still have it since the land has been for sale for a while now. The local Chapter of "Tree Huggers for Obama" will have to meet somewhere else if we lose it! :)
Sassy, I'm sure the trash is already gone. Certainly the photographer wasn't taking pictures just to whine but they did the responsible thing and picked it all up so they could be a good example to the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Otto, and then the photographer should have rewired the copper wiring in the lamp posts and soldered the plates closed. Because that's what responsible citizens do.
ReplyDeleteHow about putting a cap on the holier-than-thou idiocy?
Since this is a "school" park, shouldn't some entity connected with the school be responsible for policing and cleaning? Maybe members of the Local School Council?
ReplyDeleteI would propose that this be a school kids' community-service project, but perhaps having minors picking up empty booze bottles would be frowned upon, right?
Or better yet Gayle since this is a "school" park the fine residents of Uptown should have a little respect and take their drinking elsewhere.
ReplyDelete"I would propose that this be a school kids' community-service project"
Wow that is a great idea, get the kids to learn at a young age who their tax dollars will be paying for later in life. Spread the wealth!
I used to bank with Harris. When I leaned the new park behind the bank was to compensate for the lack of "green space" at Wilson Yards, I knew this was going to happen. People used to live in their cars on that street, open their car doors, scoot their behinds out of the doors and empty themselves on the curb. A great thing for the school kids to see every day. Now there is a lovely park for the locals to trash...
ReplyDeleteright on chip!
ReplyDeleteDon't these people have any self-respect? There are outhouses down at Montrose Harbor at least.
ReplyDeleteDoes the ward service office have a public toilet?
