Update: When we heard that Maryville on Montrose was the staging area for the press, we had a feeling our intrepid News-Star editor Lorraine Swanson would be hot on the scene. We were right; the News-Star has issued a "Web Extra" about the fire, including photos: Firefighters Contain Fire in Uptown High-Rise: Evacuated residents allowed to return to their units

Fire on the 10th floor in the building at 4343 N Clarendon. Thats the high rise at Montrose & Clarendon
ReplyDeleteIt's a SE corner unit pretty well gutted; firemen still on the scene. It looks like a lot of smoke for several floors above. The living room in the unit directly above sustained some damage but the power's still on.
ReplyDeletei live in the building on the 8th floor. the firemen are starting to file out and wrap things up. from what i understand its higher up than 10. i heard people saying the affected floors are 13-15 in the southeast corner.
ReplyDeleteMy friend who lives in the building texted me that it started on floor 13
ReplyDeleteWondered what all that noise was. Guess I could have, uh... gone outside or something (I can see that building from mine). Nah, this is more convenient.
ReplyDeletefire was on the 13th floor..four floors below mine on the SE corner. Unit affected totally gutted. The residents of the unit were using sternos and started their drapes on fire. Lots of smoke damage on our floor.
ReplyDeleteSorry about that, I was listening to my scanner and initially they said it was the 10th floor. Scary ordeal in any event.
ReplyDeleteMorons shouldn't be using candles or anything with a match.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I live on the 7th floor - I read in the News Star something about lighting fire logs with sterno. Hello, there are no fireplaces in this building, uhm, at least there better not be.....
ReplyDeleteGlad the owner wasn't hurt, but some people shouldn't play with matches...
ah, the joys of a gel fireplace..they're all the craze (blaze). The damn things should be outlawed.
ReplyDeleteCurses! You got the more exciting photos! Aaaaarrrrrrrgh!
