Barren Broadway No More

Mercy! It's Arbor Day in Uptown. Turns out the new tree near Smoke Dreams was just the first of many. This is the east side of Broadway between Sunnyside and Montrose, with trees and budding saplings and mulch and everything. New trees were also planted further south on Broadway. What a nice difference from a couple months ago.

UPDATE:
There are still at least 4 barren spots left in the 4600 block of Broadway, near "Gigio's Pizza" and "Da Spot." Hopefully the tree-planters did not overlook this and will be back tomorrow.

  1. I feel a spell of tree-huggin' coming on!! Thanks to those of who have been requesting the trees and thanks, Helen, if you were part of making it happen.

  2. I wonder what big wigs are coming to our neighborhood in the next week that Helen had them plant all these trees at once? Maybe she's thinking that the "big Target announcement" may bring reporters to film their story up and down Broadway.

  3. Speaking of the "big announcement," check out the latest Crain's story. It said that an announcement would be made in "a couple weeks." Well, that would be just about now. We shall see.

  4. Now, if only we can get some trees on Wilson from Clarendon to Broadway.. and Lawrence Ave from Sherican to Clark.. and replace those cut down or dead on Sheridan from Montrose to Lawrence.... hmmm....

  5. OH what the heck, some in front of 1100 W. Leland would be nice too...

  6. I'm sure our Alderman had NOTHING to do with the planting of new trees.

If she strolled a few blocks north, she'd see the disgusting conditions of Leland/Broadway, that have been a blight for years.
