The Chicago Tribune just reported that the City of Chicago has been awarded $2M of federal monies to fight gangs (whether prosecuting serious offenders or providing assistance for prisoners re-entering society, etc.). Local agencies will have the opportunity to apply for use of funds.
Is the 46th Ward eligible for these funds? Considering all of the violence in Uptown this year, will Alderman Shiller issue a press release communicating her plans to apply (or not) for these funds? Uptown is experiencing the highest level of violence that I've witnessed in my three years living in the 46th Ward, with more than a dozen separate shootings in the last thirty days. This seems like a great opportunity to combat the gangs in our neighborhoods and make our neighborhoods safer for all of our residents.
Wow Two Million Dollars!!! What a Joke. Spent that in Iraq in the blink of an eye. I don't worry about other neighborhoods because I don't live their, but comparatively Uptown is Beverly Hills compared to Englwood, Gresham, the village, terror town (south shore), Lawndale k-town(west side). This city has a serious gang problem, 2 million isn't gonna dent this.

ReplyDeletepuh--lease! just enough to line the pockets of some fat cats and their friends.
ReplyDeleteLook, we just got blue garbage carts in the 46th for recycling... can't you just be happy with that?
ReplyDeleteOh, sorry, I was thinking like a Shillerista for a second there... I won't let it happen again. :)
One dope man on the street can make that much in one year and pay for more soldiers to sell more crack.
