An under-15 squad from Nigeria's 36 Lion Soccer Academy will face elite club teams from Germany, Mexico and the United States at the World Sport Chicago International Cup. Before that, though, they'll play with local kids in Uptown (Montrose and Wilson park) from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23.
Presented by World Sport Chicago as part of the city's 2016 Olympic bid, this international tournament features premier teams from three continents including three-time Chicago International Cup champion Hamburg SV, two under-15 U.S. National teams, a Chicago Fire youth academy team, Chicago Fire star Cuauhtémoc Blanco's Mexican youth academy team and a regional Olympic development team.
The tournament kicks off with opening ceremonies at 3:30 p.m. on July 24 at UIC and runs through Sunday, July 27.
I got my business cards printed at the "36 Lions" shop in the strip mall with all the African shops at Sheridan and Sunnyside.
ReplyDeleteNice folks who are BIG soccer fans, so I imagine they have something to do with the U-15 36 Lions soccer squad coming to Uptown.
I actually played in this way back when I was younger. It was just our team and Hamburg SV back then. The following summer we went to Hamburg and played there. Heckuva experience for me. Kinda cool they are expanding to others now.
