We had been wondering what was going on with this building at Broadway and Irving. Would it be torn down? Well, judging by the new brick being added to the facade, we say no. If you live near this intersection and think there is a business that would thrive here, email the company and give them the realtor's number: 847-337-7277
I went to the East Lakeview Neighbors meeting last Thursday where this site was mentioned. A representative from Ald. Shiller's office stated that the previous plans for the site have been nixed and the building will be rehabbed. No information about what retail will go in there. I don't recall hearing about any presentation to discuss the change with the community.
ReplyDeleteResidents at the meeting expressed disappointment about the lack of communication from Ald. Shiller's office, and one woman reminded her that half of the area of East Lakeview Neighbors is within the 46th Ward.
The representative from Ald. Shiller's office stated that the office would try to do better with communicating with the residents. Residents did receive notices about the movie nights.
living next to this building I am thrilled that it will not be a six story condo building eyesore. i have heard rumors that the old building was purchased by a bank (no word on validity) but that they will be leasing out the space for the time being. if anyone knows anything please post, because I've been watching this building 3 years now and am interested in what will happen .
ReplyDeleteAll the hoop jumping the owners went through and most certainly campaign contributions are down the drain.
ReplyDeleteEasy come, easy go.
No PUD, and no set asides, I suppose, and current zoning is adequate?
Poor Helen. She loses on all fronts.
The winners are the current residents of the area who never wanted an 8 story building that would have created even more traffic than that crazy intersection could bear in the first place.
