  1. Don't disrespect the police it's that simple.

Some of these thugs deserve it.

I have notice a lot of disrespectful groups of teens in Uptown.

I am on the Police side on this one.

  2. I heard he then stumbled into Popeye's, ordered a 4 piece extra crispy with biscuits, and laughed it off during his second side.

He later passed out and died from severe concussion trauma, but who cares?

  3. Police brutality is never OK. But I think until more facts come out it's way too early to make any real judgments. I was at the CAPS meeting for this beat last night and the district commander talked about this incident. One of his officers was actually injured. Whether this was from the same alleged altercation or maybe as a result of it, who knows...

  4. We definitely need to find out a LOT more here. Someone's lying.

I would think that if so many people were trying to take camera phone pictures, someone would have some record of it, but who knows? Wasn't the Magnolia/Wilson camera moved to that corner?

This area seems to be a vacuum for information. Some friends of ours described driving through a near riot with tear gas and everything by on Wilson by Truman a few months back, but I never heard a report about that either.

  5. I wish it was ok for me to slam a few people at that intersections heads into a pole. If this were to happen more frequently at this corner it could straighten things out.

  6. Iheard this was a fight of over 30 teenagers /young adults that was out of control. And, I also heard a cop was hurt by the "mob." At instances like this, when the police are fearing for their own safety, I'm all for a little head knocking. ! Get em police!

  7. No wonder kids disrespect the police. I do not think it is OK for a police officer to beat on a kid's head who is unarmed. They should use other tactics to take control of a situation if needed. If this was your kid, weather he was doing something wrong or not, I'm sure you would be disgusted that the officer hit your kid's head to gain control of a situation. Have you ever spent any time in a brain injury unit of a hospital? It is a very sad place and I hope this kid did not have to end up in one no matter what he did wrong.

I am all for letting the police do their job, but maybe they should have tried something else in this situation.

  8. Everyone should wait to see if more facts come out.

Perhaps the police were in the right and the story as being told in the "report" are wrong.

    Perhaps the police overreacted.

At this point I have seen no facts.

    Just conjecture and rumor.

One thing police should do is mount cameras on their vehicles. Some departments even issue cameras that are placed on headgear. Cameras would be helpful in seeing who is telling the truth and help cut down crime. Some scumbag says the cops hit him for no reason and you see him with a knife..........nuff said.......off to jail.

Violence is a necessary part of law enforcement. It is excessive violence which is wrong.

Until I hear more I make no judgements.

  9. If it's the same group of teenagers that cruise up and down Sheridan then I can see why the cop did this. Those guys suck. Loud as crap, they litter all over the place, and they pretend to fight, often spilling out into the road.

  10. I live near Wilson and Magnolia and I saw a group of about 25-30 kids fighting in the street at around 3:30ish on Halloween. It was extremely scary and I was out walking with my daughter in the stroller. These kids were in the intersection (4 way stop at wilson and magnolia) and were fighting, throwing garbage cans and eggs at each other. Cars were honking and it was scary. I called 911 right away to report the fight. They didn't seem that concerned as I waited about 3-5 min. and had to call 911 because no car showed up.

  11. I applaud the aforementioned head slamming.

My only regret is I didn't do it myself.

    And yes, I'm serious.

  12. Did they say at the CAPS beat meeting if this incident was related at all to the gunfire at Broncho Billy Park?

  13. I have kids. I teach my children how to behave in public. I teach my children to respect their elders, especially the police. I know where my kids are 24/7. I know who their friends are. I know their friends parents. I would be embarrassed if I heard that one of my children was involved in something like this. I wouldn't blame the police for having to use physical force in restraining one of my kids. In fact, I would apologize to the officer, then I would let my kid have it!

  14. Somewhere up near Andersonville, Brendan Shiller is salivating over another chance to sue the CPD.

  15. It could be a very lucrative venture... Just mouth off or act a "little too gay" in front of some Chicago cops, and just take the beating while your friend videotapes it. Then hire the junior Shiller to be your lawyer, sit back, and watch the magic money machine!

Of course, has Brendan Shiller ever won a case? Ahhh... there's the hole in the plan! Doh!

  16. yep... I'm with the majority on this one... some thugs could use their heads beaten into a pole now and then!

ps.. I heard the kids were yelling at people to move to Lincoln Park if they didn't like it - they were chanting "This is Uptown, not YUPTOWN!!!"

  17. So why does the majority think IrishPirate is wrong?

It's been more than a week -- any updates?

  18. So what's happening for you to bitch about in your single family home, in your neighborhood in the far South Side J.P.?

  19. Irishpirate is always right.

  20. I spoke with a guy who witnessed the fight when it started at Wilson & Magnolia. He said two different groups were having words with one another and it appeared to be gang related. Later, they started throwing bikes and bricks at one another while they were all in the middle of the street. There was mahem everywhere. The youth then traveled with their fighting to Broadway & Wilson. The guy who witnessed this stayed at Wilson & Magnolia and never knew cops came until later.

Was there police brutality? Can't say but there were two gangs fighting and they were all pretty hyped up. I'm thinking these teens weren't as innocent as they want to come across and there's much more to this story than what we're hearing. I'm guessing these young guys weren't in the mood to say "yes sir" to the police when they were told to disperse.

  21. I'd also like to see some followup. I like how the newspaper writes an article as though the incident was proven already..

  22. About Us: "The Daily News is an online newspaper written by and for Chicago residents. We're dedicated to bringing you Chicago stories you won't find anywhere else"."

And there is probably a good reason why you won't find those stories anywhere else. Like, they are not real journalism and not really researched.

  23. To respond to someone's post above- the incident was separate from the incident at bronco billy.

  24. On the side of the police on this one, based on what I heard from witnesses of this scene!

  25. All of these problems can be solved simply by having the police confiscate crack when they make arrests then lacing it with cyanide before they put it back onto the streets.
It is cheap simple effective and a good idea. I am not sure why cities have not done this yet.
