Uptown Broadway Building Lower Level Club
Getting More Real

A reader sent in these photos of signs that showed up on the Uptown Broadway Building last week.

Nearly a year ago, UBBAR, LLC began the licensing process for a "banquet hall/special events facility."  Now there are signs announcing the applications for a "public place of amusement" license and another for a license to consume alcoholic beverages on the premises.  All part of the same project?  Time will tell.

Neighbors near the Uptown Broadway Building (Leland and Broadway) haven't received their notices of these applications yet, but if Samuel Banks is still the zoning attorney, he knows they're required for everyone within 250 feet of the UBB.

The space in the UBB's basement is 7200 square feet, and extends all the way under the sidewalk.  It has the potential to be something great, and Thad Wong, who bought and restored the building several years ago, is also one of the principals of UBBAR, LLC.  We're eager to see what it eventually ends up being.

A Tenant For The UBB's Lower Level?

Verrrrrry interesting!  Not so much this letter, which was mailed to neighbors about a zoning variance for parking.  But -- reading the fine print -- looks like a new business, owned by UBBAR, LLC, is planning to open at 4713 North Broadway, which is one of the addresses of the Uptown Broadway Building.

We've heard that Children's Memorial is opening offices in the remaining ground floor office space, so we're wondering if UBBAR ("Uptown Broadway Building Bar"?), described in the letter as a "banquet hall/special events facility," is going to be taking the large (7200sf) lower level space, which stretches beneath the sidewalk on Broadway?

Time will tell.  The parking spaces are, as far as we can tell, just going to be reserved spots in the parking lot that already exists in the parking lot just east of Bridgeview Bank and just north of the Uptown Broadway Building.

To see what the lower level looks like, take a look at the video here.  We're very intrigued to see what pans out.

Uptown Broadway Building Business
Edges Closer To Reality

Looks like the special events facility that we think is going into the lower level of the Uptown Broadway Building is making its way through the red tape.  A reader got this Notice of Hearing in the mail today.

Using the handy-dandy State of Illinois corporation search feature, we see that UBBAR, LLC was formed last year and a principal partner is Thaddeus Wong, who also owns the Uptown Broadway Building.  We love this rehab and hope all goes well with the approval process for the new business.
