Make A Run For The Taco Bell Cantina! Ahora Abierta In Uptown

Baja Blasts on Broadway, baby!

We shared a sneak preview in May and saw training a couple of weeks ago, but no official opening date was posted for the new Taco Bell location.

However, an excited reader sent us pictures yesterday confirming Taco Bell Cantina is now (soft?) open at 4437 North Broadway

Longtime Uptowners will remember this as many things, including The Spot, and most recently the nightclub Decibel.

One of our team went chalupa hunting and confirmed the report. It's a smaller space than those who remember the bar might imagine. In true 2024 style, customers running to the border order food and drinks via kiosk and pick up from a counter.

If you're going to stay, there are some small tables, but no booth seating. (The rural Taco Bells of my youth definitely had plenty of booths for loitering, so maybe it's good...).

According to the website, hours are 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. No alcohol yet ("Cantinas" are supposed to have booze) but we hear the license has been applied for.

  1. I love that this place opened…the one in wrigleyville is just so hard to get to….forget when there is a Cubs game.

  2. Is this really what we’re excited about for Uptown? A Taco Bell? Seriously?

    1. Seems like the franchise owner is connected because I can't figure out why anyone (including Angela Clay on instagram?) cares about a Taco Bell. I'll continue to patronize Taqueria Diamante thanks

    2. Not me! I am excited for closed up storefronts, so that I can say, that right there, that is NOTHING, welp it used to be the Spot or Decibel or something, but now it is closed! Yay!

    3. You typically don't need Aldermanic approval to own a business - a commercial space re-opened as a restaurant. There are the usual permits, but no changes to zoning. Schiller didn't give you McDonalds, Capplemann didn't give you Sonic, Clay didn't give you Taco Bell.

    4. Heck yeah! A business in what was a long vacant storefront - certainly something to be excited about!
