Little Amal, a 12-foot-tall puppet representing a ten-year-old Syrian child, has been making appearances all over the world to raise awareness (and funds) for refugees who find themselves without a homeland, searching for a place of safety. Over half of the world's refugees are children.
Saturday, Little Amal will visit Margate Park (4921 North Marine Drive) between 10:30am and 11:30am, where she will learn to make stone soup. According to the Park District website:
"Amal ... will learn how to make a very special pot of Stone Soup. She needs the children of Chicago to help her with a dollop of theatre, a dash of music and a sprinkle of imagination.
Right after, Amal will make the first kick in a game of youth soccer organized by the Syrian Community Network."
Little Amal is on a two-month tour across America, which began in Boston in early September and will conclude in San Diego in November. She has visited 13 countries and has met over a million people since she began her travels and raising awareness.
