We learned today that the Saddle & Cycle Club has made the difficult decision to cancel its Independence Day fireworks show for this year.
Of course; it's 2020.
The annual display, which can be seen by those who watch from the areas outside the club's grounds at Foster and Marine, is a much-loved neighborhood tradition.
Given the importance of social distancing, and the large crowds that gather in the parks and beaches around the club to view the fireworks, it's a smart decision.
But it's very disappointing.
As the club's representative says, "Hope for the best for next year." We agree.
**According to Navy Pier's website, the July 4th fireworks there are tentatively still on, and will take place at 9pm.
