Community Meeting About Proposed Liquor Store On Broadway

From Ald. Cappleman's website:

  • What: Community Meeting to Discuss a Proposed Liquor Store at 4635-39 N. Broadway
  • Where: 4635-39 N. Broadway
  • When: Thursday, July 25 at 6:30 p.m.

Business owner, Pradeep Patel, is proposing a wine and spirits store at 4635-3939 N. Broadway. This space has been newly renovated by Lakepointe Apartments and Development, LLC (Mike Krueger).

In an email to Alderman Cappleman’s office, Patel states,

“I have been a part of the retail industry, primarily in the wine and spirits segment, for the past 22 years. I have had a track record of acquiring existing stores in Chicago and remodeling them extensively. I take great pride in offering a cosmetically beautiful shopping environment for my customers. My current shops are a indicator of that statement.

I invest a great amount of money and thought into design elements that are usually absent in traditional existing Chicago Liquor stores. I keep my store windows open and absent of any 'SALE' signs that usually are a part of many Chicago Land stores. This greatly enhances the Curb Appeal of the part that I occupy on the street.

I fully understand and Value the trust a community places in me when they Grant me the Privilege of a Liquor License. As my past reflects I assure a very high standard of operation to the community if granted the privilege.”

  1. Of all the businesses, he chose liquor. There's liquor already up and down Broadway. Aldi is selling liquor. The Dollar store is selling liquor. isn't there a liquor store on Leland and Broadway? GEEZ!
It's interesting...contrast this to 66th & King Drive. The neighbors are trying to close a liquor store because of all the crime it attracts.

  3. Actually there really aren't that many. As my friends say when they come to socialize at my house, "You live in a dry desert...there are no places to buy beer near you". The Walgreen's is dry, and JJ Peppers closed. Nothing on Leland, Eastwood, Lakeside, Lawrence, etc. I'm fairly certain there's nothing east of Broadway.

    1. I normally go to Foremost on argyle now that JJ's is closed. Provisions is nice also. I do not consider grocery stores (including aldi, target) to be suitable alternatives due to selection. Would be nice to have another place that sells larger variety of beer and cider besides Bud, Miller, Angry Orchard etc.

  4. Jewel, Target, Azusa, Rayans, Gns Supermarket, Buena Deli, Foremost and Marianos aren't close enough?

  6. Live near there and I would love to see an upscale liquor store go in. If you look up Patel's other shops (Hops and Grapes, for example), they are tasteful, well lit, and stocked with all the variety that no store sells between Montrose and Argyle. Don't be whiny Nimbys, people.

    1. Walk two blocks north to Provisions Uptown for an upscale liquor store. It's at 4812 N. Broadway Ave. We have five other places within a 5 block radius that sell alcohol. How many do we really need?

  8. guys this is America, approving a permit is not based on what type of businesses you feel area needs! The business owner with the money and the lease decides what to risk it on...assuming its not some huge hazard or something. This guy thinks it will pay off...if it doesn’t then he will close and your problem solved.
