Well, here we are again, waiting for the results of a runoff election.
It's 7pm and the polls are closed! So how do we know how the voting went?
Well, you
could stand at Racine and Broadway and stare at First Ascent / Huntington Bank, in hopes of seeing the returns projected on a screen on the building, as Uptowners did 99 years ago for the 1920 presidential election.
Or, you could call up the websites
for the Tribune and
Sun-Times, or the
Chicago Board of Elections.
CLTV is running live election coverage.
We'll be here updating returns for a couple hours. Keep checking back and hitting refresh.

And now it goes to the mail-in votes. Not sure how long it takes - they must be postmarked by today, and received by the Board of Elections by Friday. So nothing until at least Friday. We'll keep you in the loop.
I just checked old UU posts and earlier any returns have been posted was 7:24 pm.
ReplyDeleteWe should have good idea of outcome by 7:45 unless it's close and I don't think it will be close.
It depends on how you define close.
DeleteJust looked at Feb returns and there were still two precincts out at 10:28pm.
It's gonna be a long night.
Oh it's close!
ReplyDeleteI'm out of town right now trying to track down the real killer from the OJ Simpson case and whoever framed the Trump campaign for illicit dealings with the Russkies.
ReplyDeleteFrom looking at numbers online I'm guessing there are 200-400 absentee ballots outstanding. Cappleman typically has done well with those ballots in the past so I'd predict he will win in a squeaker.
I wouldn't bet my middle testicle on it though.
This was a perfect storm for Lalonde. If she wins or loses she can thank Ed Burke for derailing the Preckwinkle and Daley campaigns and Lightfoot's endorsement of her. Without that Cappleman would have won easily.
She can also thank her own hard work. This is like Battle of Midway stuff everything came together for her at the right moment. She can also thank Wozniak for running such an awful campaign.
If Capp had faced the Woz it wouldn't have been close.
Now we just need to sit back and see how this plays out. The votes are in now it's just a question of waiting till the mail ins come in and get counted.
If she does lose Lalonde has put herself in great position for 2023. Capp will likely not run again and then it's gonna be a "Thrilla in Vanilla" runoff with Lalonde versus me--the IrishPirate. Her Ginger Menace Persona versus my middle aged flowing Thor like Blonde Hair.
Tune in four years from now!
Ok, I sobered up and made it from Midway Airport home and ran some numbers.
ReplyDeleteIn Feb during the general election Capp and Lala each got almost exactly their overall percentage in the race in the votes that came in after election day. So if that holds then Capp will win by an overwhelming 24-26 votes or so.
Nothing to be done now except sit back and let the write ins come in and be counted. I'd rather be in Capp's position now, but barring legal skullduggery or me hijacking a mail truck the election has already been won by one of them--we just don't know which.
It's all about counting.
PS I'm not hijacking a mail truck. I like Cappleman, but I'm too young and pretty to go to prison---again.
If there are say 400 or so votes out there Lalonde needs about 52.8 percent to tie.
I have to say I'm enjoying the absurdity of this.
A tie would be fitting, but it's best for the ward if one pulls ahead and wins by a solid fifty votes or something. I'm hoping that someone is Capp.
If not then "Hail Lala, those of us who are about to cry salute you."
