TimeLine Theatre Company Purchases Historic Building On Broadway, Plans Move

And the Uptown Entertainment District gains another star!

In today's newsletter, Ald. Osterman announced: "I am excited to announce that after nearly two years of working closely with TimeLine Theatre to find a location in our community, they have purchased property at 5033-5035 N. Broadway to be the company's new home and base of operations.

TimeLine will renovate the brick storage building and expand on the back of the building to include a second theatre space. TimeLine is a leader among Chicago's theatre community and will serve as a strong anchor on the the northern end of the Uptown Entertainment District, and will contribute to the success of the Edgewater Theatre District.

TimeLine's location in the Argyle business district will complement the vibrancy in the area, bringing new customers to the restaurants and shops, and providing additional nightlife options to neighbors and diners in the area.

TimeLine's mission is 'to present stories inspired by history that connect with today’s social and political issues'. No better place for them to land than a 100+ year-old building seated in a neighborhood with a rich history as both an entertainment hub and a point of entry to immigrants and refugees.

We look forward to the company becoming part of the fabric of our community, and partnering with our many wonderful organizations and schools. For more information about TimeLine Theatre, visit timelinetheatre.com.

The arrival of TimeLine Theatre is an indication that progress on Argyle St. continues, thanks to the tireless work of community leaders. The new streetscape and Argyle Night Market are only two pieces of the puzzle when it comes to sustaining and building on the vibrancy and culture in the area. We are seeing second-generation businesses opening up, like First Sip Cafe, that bring a modern touch to the street while still honoring the Asian culture that makes the district a special place.

As we prepare for the coming CTA Red Purple Modernization project, the Argyle station, platform, and adjacent tracks and embankment are in line to be rebuilt. We are seeing new housing developments in the area, bringing new residents who can enjoy and support the thriving independent, family-owned businesses. Thank you to all who have been part of the efforts to increase investment and opportunity in the Argyle area, and I look forward to continuing the work with you."
