Founder of Fiesta Mexicana Passes Away

It's such an Uptown story: the Peruvian daughter of Chinese immigrants comes to Chicago and finds success opening a Mexican restaurant.

Many of us love Fiesta Mexicana, but had no idea it opened back in 1979, when Uptown was a very different place. Lucy Matthew, then age 28, took a chance and opened at 4806 North Broadway. Later, she opened another location in Lincoln Park, in 1985.

Ms. Matthew passed away on September 3rd. Her full obituary is in the Sun-Times. Raise a glass to her memory next time you're at one of her restaurants.
