Welcome To Uptown, Verizon

If you are a Verizon customer, you'll be happy to not have to travel to Edgewater, Lincoln Square, or Lakeview to go to your service provider's store. After several weeks of rehabbing and furnishing the interior of the storefront at 4660 North Broadway (at Clifton), it looks like Verizon is getting ready to open there. The signage went up in the past day or so.

We can't remember the last time there was full retail there. The location was rehabbed by Lakepointe Properties about seven or eight years ago, and has served as temporary space for several campaign offices and a pop-up store or two. Prior to that, there were signs for the "God Is My Shepherd" Hair Braiding shop, but it was shuttered and no longer in business by the time this blog started in 2007.

It's hard to believe that one of the retail spaces shown below is now home to Michelin-star-rated restaurant 42 grams at 4662 N. Broadway. "Spoil Me Hair Salon" rounds out the great retail in this building. My, how things have changed over the years!

 No opening date for Verizon is posted on the door, but since the outside signs are up, it can't be long.

Good to see empty storefronts being filled, especially near the Wilson L.
