The Other Side of the Tracks
One of the most noticeable projects in Uptown is the demolition and reconstruction of the Wilson Red Line tracks. It's incredible to us that in just ten months, the CTA has demolished multiple blocks of century-old train tracks and heavy concrete trestles, and has rebuilt them so quickly that they predict that trains will be running on them by March.
Above are some unique views of the latest phase of the work, the new track platforms crossing Broadway at Leland, photographed from the roof of the building immediately east of the workzone on Leland. (Thank you, kind reader!)
At some point during the next year, CTA will begin to demolish and rebuild of the other set of tracks and trestles that were built in 1907, the brown ones running next to the shiny new ones.
