Two People Shot Near Argyle Friday and Saturday

The area around Argyle and Sheridan has been quiet for a long time, but there were shootings both Friday and Saturday.
  • According to the Tribune, a man was shot twice in the back at 4:20am on Friday on the 5000 block of Kenmore (the Sun-Times has it happening in the 5000 block of Sheridan).  A friend drove him to Weiss Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
  • On Saturday night, a 48-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen on the 5000 block of Kenmore around 9:30pm.  She drove herself to Weiss Hospital, where she was said to be in stable condition.
We don't know anything more than was in the papers.  No one has sent in any further information. Ald. Osterman is usually very good about sending out informational email blasts when there's a serious crime in his ward, so we'll post anything he provides.

National Night Out Against Crime is this Tuesday, and both the officers and commanders of the 19th and 20th District will be at Weiss Plaza, at Sheridan and Lawrence.  We urge youo to attend, where you can speak to the police about these crimes.

  1. Is Weiss a receiving hospital for gunshot wounds? I thought that only designated hospitals could accept gunshot wounds?

    1. Certain hospitals are designated trauma centers, where EMTs are instructed to take people who are seriously wounded because they have special expertise in treating critical cases. However, any hospital is obligated to take anyone who walks through their doors unless they're on bypass status. Both of the people shot got themselves to the hospital without EMT involvement. If they had been critical, they would have been transferred to a trauma center hospital for treatment, provided they were able to survive the trip.
