Rehab Watch: 1132-40 W. Wilson

1132-40 W. Wilson, via Cedar Street
You might recall Cedar Street purchasing 1132-40 W. Wilson a while back. It is a beautiful vintage building on the corner at Clifton (and stretches north on Clifton, including a 3 story section) that is home to 7-Eleven and Harold's Chicken, as of now.
Cedar Street plans to rehab the building to include 40 units, down from the current 54 units, to rental housing geared towards artists. The building permits were issued April 30, so expect to see work beginning soon!

Complete Building Permit info:
REHAB OF EXISTING MIXED USE 3 STORY, TYPE III-B BUILDING WITH BASEMENT. VANILLA BOX BUILD OUT OF REAR RETAIL SPACE AT FIRST FLOOR AND BASEMENT. DE-CONVERSION OF 54 EXISTING UNITS TO 40 DWELLING UNITS AT SECOND AND THIRD FLOORS PER PLANS

  1. The building across Clifton was bought a while back as well. What's up with that one? That little curved section of Clifton could be really cool if lined with bars/restaurants/shops and closed off to cars. That place could go from piss alley to the place to be before and after shows in the neighborhood or even a place for students to gather and sit around studying in coffee shops during the day.

    1. Are you talking about the building with the Wilson Men's Hotel SRO? Or Sylvia's Place homeless shelter? Lofty idea, but perhaps you've forgotten that the City Council decided to prohibit the closure of any more SROs (probably because they prefer to have them in Uptown instead of their own wards), so you'd have to convince all of Cappleman's colleagues to let him replace the piss alley "housing" with bars, restaurants, and coffee shops that they'd like to have in their own wards and take the displaced homeless instead. That's a tall order, but I like your idea.

  2. It's a nice building. I noticed a lot of police activity around that building and it's good to see it being renovated.
