CTA finished demolishing the bridge over Broadway early. The street is open, the bridge is mostly gone, and the rubble is picked up. Last night Ald. Cappleman tweeted this photo and wrote: "Beyond amazing to see the old tracks come down. Eventually, no supports for the L will be touching the street." We'll have to wait for sunshine to see how much brighter and less shadowy Broadway is with the heavy concrete overpass gone forever.
I live right near this corner, and it is already so much brighter, even on a gloomy day such as today! I did think, though, that ALL of the concretre over Broadway was coming down this weekend - so I'm just a tiny bit disappointed. But also amazed at the new streetview already!
