Five Straight Days In The 60s

After a vile winter, Chicagoans know what to do when the sun is out and the temperatures hit the 60s: take to the lakefront for sailing, running and golf. Thanks to a reader for this view from her home of the park and lake. Great weather through the weekend, take advantage!

  1. The last few days have been great but I wouldn't characterize the winter as vile. I went to the lake most days during the winter and every day experienced so much beauty and took many pictures to capture it. Those days when the lake is frozen and jagged as far as the eye can see, everything is blanketed in white and the sun brilliant in the clear sky are some of the most beautiful days of the year to me. The lake is largely deserted and you really feel the silence and open emptiness of the still landscape. It can be truly meditative and uplifting. Seeing the snowy owls at the Magic Hedge and following the tracks of rabbits in the snow or spotting a coyote. The winter provided many magical moments for me. It's amazing to me that this can be found right in the city. Yes it was cold but that's what warm clothes are for! I guess one man's trash is another man's treasure. As Madonna said "Beauty's where you find it."
